Hello?
I’m Baek Won-seon, head dentist at Gangnam Rev Dental Clinic.
The number of people coming to our clinic to receive professional teeth whitening has now increased from more than 10 a day to 20 or 30 a day. That’s how scary word of mouth can be... haha
So in my previous post, I covered a teeth whitening Q&A, and as I answered the questions, I ended up studying more as well.
I’d like to explain which is better between self teeth whitening and professional whitening at a dental clinic, and why it is better.
And you should also know about the most commonly used domestic whitening agents and the machines used~!!!
If you want information before getting teeth whitening, make good use of my blog haha
Did you know that there are different types of agents used for teeth whitening?

What whitening agent do we use most often at Rev Dental Clinic, the whitening destination on Garosugil?
It is the “Ostem Beautis” product made by Ostem Pharma (a subsidiary of Osstem Implant).
It’s also a very memorable name. BTS!!
It was launched more than 10 years ago and is one of the two products in Korea that have received MFDS approval.

The other product is Trinity Gel from Samil Medical.
This is also a domestic product and has received MFDS approval.
In the past, Trinity was widely used and well known, but since Osstem is such a large company with an enormous distribution network, it is said that Ostem Beautis now almost monopolizes supply to most university hospitals.

There is also an American product called Opalescence, but due to its high cost, it seems to be hard to find in the Korean market these days.
(I even had a hard time finding a photo....)
What is the biggest reason for using Ostem Beautis?

The principle behind brightening teeth is this:
When a tooth whitening agent is applied to the tooth surface and exposed to “high-intensity” blue LED light, hydrogen peroxide decomposes together with a special activator and generates free radicals.
These free radicals are what brighten the teeth.
In the old days, the agent was harsh and irritating, so whitening was done only once a day, three times at one-week intervals using the same method. What dramatically changed this was the Ostem Beautis product.

When you press the back of the product on the left with your hand, a syringe containing a relatively low concentration of 21% hydrogen peroxide and another syringe containing a “special activator” are automatically mixed and dispensed.
That’s because they found a way to increase whitening effectiveness not by simply using a higher concentration of hydrogen peroxide, but by adding a “special activator” to boost results even at a lower concentration. That’s why whitening three times a day became possible.
There is something else important too.

When you go to a dental clinic for teeth whitening, you will mostly encounter two types of machines.
The one on the left is a standing-type light irradiation device that plugs into 220V power, and naturally, its light output is stronger!
What’s more, it emits blue light optimized for the Ostem Beautis product.
The one on the right is worn around the neck. In fact, it was not made for use in a dental clinic, but for home use.
The light is much weaker. The standing-type light device on the left is so strong that, without a lip protector, it could burn the lips... but of course, that should never happen with the product on the right, right???

It was made for home use, but as it is for home use, the concentration is lower, the effect is lower.......
The standing-type machine costs more than 2 million won, while the necklace-type one is under 200,000 won... You wouldn’t use something like that at a dental clinic, right???

I’m also very much into equipment.... I can’t stand it when results are poor because the equipment isn’t good.. haha
In conclusion, using the Ostem Beautis agent together with the standing-type Ostem Beautis light device is the proper standard for teeth whitening.
At Rev Dental Clinic, we do our best to deliver the highest level of results for every patient using the official Ostem Beautis whitening agent and the official standing-type light device, with standardized methods and timing.
What about w-gel or Multi-Boost, besides Ostem Beautis and Trinity?
Multi-Boost made by HaeRim DENTEC and w-gel by Mediclus

These two products seem to be widely used as substitutes for Ostem Beautis and Samil Medical’s Trinity.
What is notable is that they are sold not as “tooth whitening agents” but as “whitening adjuncts.” They say they have received MFDS approval, but because they did not receive approval as “tooth whitening agents,” they use the name “whitening adjuncts.”
In fact, since the principle of teeth whitening comes from the release of hydrogen peroxide and free radicals, the two products above also naturally have the effect of brightening teeth.
In common, there is a container with 35% hydrogen peroxide, and Multi-Boost is labeled as a remineralizing agent while w-gel is labeled as an abrasive agent; these are put into the hydrogen peroxide container and mixed by hand before use. (Because they are mixed by hand, there are limits to product consistency.)
These companies do not make standing-type light devices. Therefore, you use the agent but must use the Ostem Beautis light device.
Ostem Beautis is said to contain 21% hydrogen peroxide, while w-gel and Multi-Boost contain 35% hydrogen peroxide, but as mentioned earlier, when actually used, the two agents are mixed together. During mixing, they become a hydrogen peroxide product at a concentration of 1517%, and the agent that finally comes into contact with the teeth is at that 1517% concentration. (That’s why the product name is Beautis 15!!)
If a lower concentration of hydrogen peroxide is used to achieve the same teeth-whitening effect, it would be less toxic and safer, right? That’s the technology!
What do you think about using self-whitening products at home?

As it happens, I recently heard that a product called “Beautis Home” was launched in the Ostem Beautis product line.
Ostem’s explanation is that instead of using hydrogen peroxide, which works quickly but is highly irritating and therefore must be controlled at a dental clinic, it uses carbamide peroxide as the main ingredient.
Of course, you should not think that 15% hydrogen peroxide = 15% carbamide peroxide~~ They are completely different chemicals.
They say that if you use it for 4 hours a day over 10 days, your teeth will become brighter by more than two-thirds of what in-office whitening can achieve... I still haven’t tried it myself, so I think I’ll need to try it and leave a review. haha
But since the product cost itself is quite high... I’ll write about that in a future post!
I can’t evaluate other products, but there are so many products in the world claiming to whiten teeth, aren’t there?
We need objective information. haha I heard that recently the MFDS issued a warning about Ostem Beautis whitening toothpaste. Maybe that’s because it claimed to be effective when the effect was actually limited.
Even such a big company as Osstem makes mistakes like this, so what about tooth-whitening products from even smaller companies...
I think consumers have to judge that for themselves!
So, after much effort, the Ostem Beautis Home product was made—could it really whiten teeth?
So where should you get teeth whitening done!

The reason I work hard on these posts is that, while they are informational articles, they also let people know about our clinic, where we study hard and use good equipment and good agents. haha
Before meeting friends or a date on Garosugil, spend just 1 hour and 30 minutes to get scaling and teeth whitening, then go meet them :)
Wouldn’t meeting someone with a brighter impression before a job interview or a blind date definitely help~!!
For the detailed process, please refer to my old post! Teeth whitening is not a scary procedure.
For prices and costs, leave your contact information on Kakao Channel, Naver TalkTalk, or our website, or open the chat window, and we will reply immediately!
This has been Baek, the dentist, writing about “In-office teeth whitening vs. self-whitening at the dentist: there is a big difference in effectiveness. Garosugil whitening hotspot recommendation/effect/cost/price/machine.” Thank you for reading this long post, and if you have any questions such as price, please feel free to leave a comment anytime!
I’ll be back with an even better post ^^
This has been Baek’s dental study.
Thank you.
