Hello.

I’m Dr. Baek from Leve Dental Clinic near Sinsa Station, where we do laminate veneers.

The restaurant I’m introducing this time is a place I visited on a rainy day in October.

On rainy days, I somehow feel like grilling and eating eel... and there happened to be a place I had heard of before!

So I went and visited it.

The staff were really kind, and being able to dine in a private room was a big plus.

Yeongdong Jangeo

It is located near the intersection by Dosan Park.

The famous Minish Dental Hospital is right next door. Our Leve Dental Clinic in Sinsa also works hard on laminate veneer treatment. ^^

Exterior

It was a day with quite heavy rain.

On the dark-colored sign, two characters in a chic style are letting you know that this is Yeongdong eel.

One feature is that valet parking is available, and even supercars are accepted...!

Parking is harder than you’d expect... but the valet fee is double.... hehe....

Also, when I visited in October, it was operating on a shortened schedule and was open during the holiday.

Our Leve Dental Clinic in Sinsa also runs nonstop 363 days a year...!...

Interior

Once inside, there were quite a lot of tables.

Since customers fill up the place in no time, they had prepared the side dishes in advance.

Because I had a baby with me, we were shown to a private room, and on the left side of the path you pass through, you can see a huge pile of eels.

It felt kind of... scary and sad at the same time.

(Then maybe don’t eat it!...)

Anyway, the small private room we were guided to was already perfectly set up with a full table spread.

A notable point is that they even provide a baby chair.

(They also give the baby a simple menu for free. I’ll show you later.)

The cast-iron plate is really nice.

The side dishes seem to be the kind you can easily find at a typical grilled eel restaurant.

Usually, don’t you put ginger on top and dip it in sauce...?

I can also see some pickled vegetables.

This is the menu at Yeongdong Jangeo in Nonhyeon-dong.

They recommended their signature Ganghwa mudflat eel,

but the price was quite high... and it felt a bit 부담스러워, so haha I ordered 2 servings of freshwater eel instead.

The limited-quantity items had glamorous names and glamorous prices too, which was interesting.

Eating only grilled eel felt like it might be a little dull and leave us hungry, so we also ordered eel soup in a ttukbaegi.

What are we going to do after eating this much eel~~~ I’ll work hard at my treatment.

In the meantime, three more side dishes were served.

They were cold side dishes packed with umami.

They go well with eel.

And what stood out was the alcohol lineup. Yeongdong Jangeo is known for having a nice selection of alcoholic drinks to meet the needs of various customers.

The lineup is really quite generous, so take a look around. Haha. Starting with whiskey...

I don’t know much, but I do know that Yamazaki 12-Year is hard to get. Ballantine’s 30 is also very famous...

But when I look at Johnnie Walker Blue, it’s twice the duty-free price.

Looking at the prices alone, I think it would be right to bring it yourself and pay the corkage fee. Haha.

Moët & Chandon, which they gave to employees as a Chuseok gift, is 220,000 won (!) and the tasty Veuve Clicquot is 200,000 won... (it’s 100,000 won even at department stores)

I’m not really familiar with the more expensive champagnes either...

I thought it was a great wine lineup. I’ve heard of Opus One. Haha. It’s 2–3 times the duty-free price..... ㅠㅠ

There are many drinks here that are definitely not a loss to enjoy at a good table!

Such an honorable wine list...

I came by car, so now I just need to enjoy the eel well.

2 servings of freshwater eel (96,000 won)

The freshwater eel comes already cleaned and lightly grilled. It costs around 100,000 won.

A kind and professional staff member grills it beautifully for you.

Being able to grill it this well is also a real skill. I can see my daughter’s fingers far away. Haha.

We’re not giving it to the child; the two adults are going to eat it all...!...

Just like at any good eel restaurant, they clean and prepare it neatly.

I’m going to eat the two tail pieces.

While they were grilling and preparing the eel so nicely, the kids’ menu came out.

It came with a simple mini pork cutlet and seaweed for children.

My daughter ate it really well and enjoyed it.

Yeongdong Jangeo is the best!!

The eel continued to turn golden brown.

Once it was cooked, the portion size did shrink quite a bit...ㅠ.ㅠ

As it was almost done cooking, they also grilled scallions so they’d be good to eat together.

The fact that they grilled everything so cleanly, without anything overcooked or burnt, is really professional!!

It’s grilled eel that you can enjoy in many different ways.

You can dip it in salt, or try it with ginger and sauce.

It’s also good with other pickled vegetables!

If it were a little thicker, it would have been even more impressive, but it still tasted very good.

Personally, if this kind of quality can be achieved in the middle of Gangnam, I think this is better than going far away.

Eel soup in ttukbaegi (25,000 won)

The ttukbaegi eel soup was served at a truly boiling-hot temperature.

If you call it a mustard leaf soup rather than a mustard leaf broth, it would be similar.

When I tried it, the flavor felt somewhat similar to chueotang. The more I ate it, the tastier it got. ^^

It feels like a delicious doenjang jjigae made by a skilled cook.

I ate really, really well again today.!!!

Conclusion

If you want eel in Gangnam, Yeongdong Jangeo!?

It’s a better-than-expected grilled eel restaurant... and it’s not easy to find one like this in the middle of Seoul. Haha.

The famous Bangujeong is all the way up in the north of Paju anyway... If you want decent grilled eel, you usually have to go quite far out to the edges of Gyeonggi Province....

I thought the right eel place I visited on my wife’s recommendation was also reasonably priced and tasty... but looking at the photos, hmm, it doesn’t seem like there’s an enormous difference compared with Yeongdong Jangeo. Haha. I also think it might be better to order the extra-large eel here and eat that instead.

Anyway, the meaning of Yeongdong Jangeo is that you can enjoy grilled eel privately in Gangnam while receiving good service.

There is just a little bit of disappointment in that I wish the eel had been a little thicker and meatier...ㅎ

Parking: Valet parking available.

This is a place that offers decent taste and good service. On top of that, they even valet-park most vehicles, so it can be called excellent.

However, one thing that bothers me is that the price is a little expensive... haha. I think you should probably come expecting to pay 20–30% more than you would if you went out to the outskirts near Gyeonggi Province..!..

Still, I was very grateful that they were kind to the child, grilled the eel so nicely, and provided a private room.

I’ll visit again~!
