Last time, I introduced a Michelin-worthy perilla seed cabbage and seaweed soup restaurant in Yongridan-gil, right?

Today, I’d like to introduce another long-standing Michelin Guide-listed restaurant not far from our home. It’s such a famous place that almost everyone knows it...

Yeokjeon Hoegwan Mapo Main Branch

A very famous place that has been listed in the Michelin Guide for years and has collected Blue Ribbon Survey stickers.

I once posted about a galbi restaurant in Mapo a long time ago... There are so many great meat restaurants near Gongdeok.

Location: 47 Tojeong-ro 37-gil, Mapo-gu, Seoul

Parking: Use the Yeomni Public Parking Lot. 250 won per 5 minutes.

This is a restaurant with an incredible history, occupying an entire building next to Yeomni Elementary School.

A restaurant with an operating history of roughly 60 years... amazing, right? Haha

The important thing is where to park your car. Use the Yeomni Public Parking Lot. It’s 250 won per 5 minutes.

Exterior

Since they use an entire building... the closer you get, the more you can’t help but go, “Wow.” From the outside, it looks like it has four floors, and they were guiding guests all the way up to the fourth floor. Truly massive.

If you stand at the entrance, you’ll be even more surprised. It has been listed in the Michelin Guide Bib Gourmand for 9 consecutive years, and there are 13 Blue Ribbon Survey stickers visible in the distance... haha

As you may know, the Michelin Guide Bib Gourmand is basically the foreign version of a great value restaurant.

Well... there’s really no need to say more. It’s a fearsome place. The contrast between red and blue seems to make it shine even more.

Interior

As soon as you enter, the first things you see are the many Michelin stickers and the history board saying it has been run by three generations! I wish I had ancestors who could pass down such a wonderful restaurant........ㅎ

Anyway, the interior looks packed with tables, and it’s also full of people. We had a 1-year-old baby with us, so we were guided to the first floor, while the people who came after us were guided to the fourth floor.

They also provide a separate baby table for infants. My daughter all dressed up in pink~

Time to eat!!!

After thinking hard about what to order... since this is a place where each person is supposed to order one meal, we ordered two servings of the thinly pounded bulgogi set and one serving of the stir-fried octopus set. And since you have to order one meal per person, we were able to order an extra side (?)—one mul naengmyeon.

The basic set comes with about 10 side dishes.

Overall, everything tastes pretty good. Personally, I liked putting the thinly pounded bulgogi on a perilla leaf and eating it with ssamjang the best.

The bowl of rice and the soup with meat in it also have a nice, mild flavor.

2 servings of thinly pounded bulgogi set & 1 serving of stir-fried octopus set (21,000 won each)

The set meal came out quickly and all at once. The bulgogi and stir-fried octopus were added to the side dishes shown earlier.

The quality and taste need no explanation. It’s slightly nutty and sweet, and so tender that you just end up swallowing it easily as you eat. The thinly pounded bulgogi was seasoned well enough that even a toddler would probably enjoy it.

I really think this is a flavor no Korean could dislike.

In my opinion, the stir-fried octopus was relatively ordinary. I wish there had been a bit more octopus... once you pick it up and eat it, it disappears pretty quickly. It felt like just the right amount for a drink snack ^^;;

Still, both were tasty. Octopus and thinly pounded bulgogi... not a combination that seems like it would go well together, but eating them together was delicious and satisfying... haha

Mul naengmyeon (13,000 won)

The mul naengmyeon made with buckwheat noodles was surprisingly delicious. You know buckwheat is easy to digest no matter how much you eat, right? haha It’s secretly a great specialty, so make sure to order and try it. It tastes great.

In the end, the rumor is that we completely wiped everything clean today too... I usually have a small appetite, but today I still ate everything deliciously. Hahaha

We ate really well today!!!

Conclusion

A Gongdeok Station restaurant with a universally delicious taste.

It seems difficult to get “a huge sense of emotion” from a restaurant that has been around for a surprisingly long time. Haha The thinly pounded bulgogi and stir-fried octopus were definitely tasty, but I don’t think they went beyond a broadly satisfying deliciousness. Of course it’s good!!! But because it’s the kind of taste that is naturally good, it felt a little lacking... a restaurant that made me want more.

I thought the thinly pounded bulgogi was nutty and sweet, and really deserving of love from many people. The same goes for the stir-fried octopus. Even someone like me, who can’t handle spicy food well, could eat it without any burden... so I felt it was in excellent condition as both a rice side dish and a drink snack.

We definitely ate very well, but at the same time, it felt ordinary. It was the taste of the most delicious meat among the meat we always eat!!! That’s why Korean food restaurants seem so difficult. Haha. Because we’re Korean... In many ways it was excellent, but that made it feel ordinary instead, Yeokjeon Hoegwan.

(On the other hand, that means it seems like a place you could eat at every day. Haha)
