How much brighter do teeth actually become with teeth whitening?

Can you really achieve satisfactory results with teeth whitening alone, without getting veneers?

20s female patient

At Lev Dental Clinic, the attending dentist performs an oral examination on every patient before teeth whitening. (I hear there are not many dental clinics that do this??) Teeth whitening also requires a diagnosis, as well as an explanation of the expected results.

When this patient first visited, the teeth had a shade of A3–A3.5, but they appeared capable of becoming considerably brighter.

After three Osstem Beautis teeth-whitening sessions, the shade had become approximately A1.5–A2.

You can see that the yellow tone had been reduced somewhat as a result of the teeth whitening.

The patient returned approximately 10 days later and received one additional retouch session.

The teeth were clearly brighter than A2, and the front teeth showed a shade reaching approximately A1.

They definitely become brighter with multiple sessions.

Compare the beginning and the end. I think the change is remarkable.

30s male patient

Although there was some tartar and plaque, the tooth shade was clearly yellow enough to be noticeable.

You may think, “Wouldn’t they only become brighter with veneers?” But…

You can see that the shade became close to A1 after three Osstem Beautis whitening sessions.

30s male patient

When he first visited, this patient had a shade of A3–A3.5, which is the average shade among Koreans.

His teeth were more yellow toward the necks than toward the crowns.

In fact, teeth whitening does not make the shade of the teeth uniform. If you want an even, bright shade, you need to undergo veneer treatment.

However, it seems possible to achieve a shade of approximately A1.5–A2 without necessarily undergoing veneer treatment.

A fairly satisfying result was achieved after three Trinity whitening sessions.

If the patient had received a retouch session, the shade might have become even closer to A1, but it was unfortunate that the patient did not return.

50s male patient

For some reason, there were more male patients than usual today.

This patient is a man in his 50s, and his teeth had a notably glossy, solid appearance.

Although his shade was A3–3.5, which can be considered the average for Koreans, it can be difficult to expect a strong result from teeth whitening when teeth have this glossy and solid an appearance.

Still, it seems there is little that cannot be done……

Although a slight grayish tone remained after the teeth whitening (teeth whitening is not a treatment that makes teeth perfectly white; it removes yellow pigments. Therefore, the teeth’s original color becomes visible), there is no doubt that the teeth became whiter!

It would be reasonable to assess the shade as approximately A1–1.5. If you try to solve crooked teeth indiscriminately with veneer treatment, you may have a very difficult time. Teeth whitening is just right for this. Haha.

20s female patient

With the final case, a female patient in her 20s, we felt as though she had changed her personal color.

This is the result after three teeth-whitening sessions using Trinity whitening agent.

You can see that the yellow tone was reduced more than expected.

You might think, “But there is still some yellow!” However, when you look at the photo taken together with the shade guide, you can see that the shade is close to A1–1.5.

Teeth whitening definitely helps considerably in reducing the yellow appearance of teeth.

When I counsel patients before teeth whitening, there is something I always explain.

Teeth whitening is a procedure similar to skincare treatments: it needs to be performed periodically, but it is not painful and produces good results.

Veneers are a procedure similar to cosmetic surgery: you can achieve a satisfying result at once, but the teeth do need to be reshaped.

There is no absolute answer as to which is better or worse, but if you want white teeth, why not try teeth whitening first?

Rather than arbitrarily filing down the teeth and attaching veneers, shouldn’t you first consider a method that can make them whiter without changing their shape at all?

Even if you decide to get veneers after having teeth whitening, applying veneers to teeth that have already been whitened will ultimately produce a much brighter and prettier result~
