I attended the Thermage MTL Forum lecture. (feat. Thermage MAX)
Hello.
I’m Choi Won-woo, a dermatologist with 22 years of experience.
Thermage is such a popular and trusted device that anyone who has considered a lifting procedure has probably heard of it at least once.
However, in clinical practice, we often hear that even when patients receive treatment with the same device, their satisfaction with the results can differ depending on the dermatology clinic or the medical staff.
This is not so much due to a difference in the device’s performance itself,
but rather due to differences in the clinician’s judgment about how to distribute and design the energy according to the patient’s skin thickness and degree of sagging.
In the end, this means that the philosophy and technique of the person operating the device are just as important as using a good device.
To reduce variation between procedures and improve the overall quality of treatment,
Thermage headquarters also operates specialized academic forums and programs for medical professionals.

One of them is the ‘Thermage MTL (SOMA)’ program that I’d like to introduce today.
I’d like to share the story of how our medical team attended as lecturers and key opinion leaders sharing know-how with fellow physicians, along with the direction we pursue.

Thermage MTL Forum

The Thermage MTL Forum is a specialized academic meeting organized by Thermage Korea headquarters.
This is not a basic training course that simply explains the device’s fundamental usage or teaches the manual.
Rather, it is an in-depth forum where physicians who are actively performing Thermage treatments in Korea gather in one place to share treatment trends and techniques.
In nature, it is closer to a small Thermage-focused academic society, and the invited medical professionals are mainly physicians with extensive clinical experience.
Here, the discussion is not simply about delivering energy more strongly,
but about clinical criteria that can reduce side effects while improving results depending on the patient’s type.
- We participated as lecturers and key opinion leaders to share our know-how.

At this forum, I was not there just as an observer; I took on the role of giving a lecture in front of fellow physicians and leading the overall program.
Dr. Lee Won-shin, who practices with us, also participated as a key opinion leader and had time to present actual clinical cases and research findings.
As shown in the attached photos, presenting the data we have accumulated and discussing it in front of many specialists was also a meaningful time for us.

The reason we actively participate in academic activities like this is not simply to make our name known.
It is because we take pride in contributing actively to the process of moving beyond simply using Thermage according to the manual,
to creating better treatment standards and establishing protocols.
In particular, we are taking part in the program as lecturers while sharing clinical outcomes from the ‘Thermage MAX’ program that we have independently researched and developed.
- We continue to rank among the top nationwide in usage.

Our Wells Dermatology Clinic has consistently remained among the top nationwide in the number of Thermage procedures performed.
Depending on the period, there are differences, but in total Thermage usage, we are within the top 3 to 5 nationwide.
Of course, a high procedure count does not automatically prove skill, but the vast amount of data accumulated through exposure to many different cases is certainly meaningful.

People with thin skin, people with a lot of fat, people sensitive to pain, and so on
Only after thousands upon thousands of procedures does one truly develop the level of expertise needed to respond flexibly in any situation.
We have not stopped at simply performing many procedures,
but have worked to research and systematize that experience academically so that we can develop the expertise to stand as lecturers at forums such as SOMA.
We are working to improve patient care even a little by turning the experience gained in the field back into research,
and then applying those results back to treatment in a virtuous cycle.
In closing,

Lifting procedures require a significant amount of cost and time, so it is only natural that patients have many concerns and expectations.
That is why medical professionals must constantly study and conduct research, and must be responsible for delivering the best possible results to patients.
My lectures and research activities at the Thermage forum are also part of the process of not losing my初心 and becoming a better doctor.
If you are currently considering Thermage treatment and have concerns,
rather than focusing only on price or distance, it may also be a good criterion to look at how deeply the medical team is researching that field.
So that your skin can continue to look healthy and elastic even as time passes, I will continue to devote myself to research and clinical care.
Thank you for reading this long post.
This has been Choi Won-woo, Chief Director.
