For Fundamental Acne Treatment,
<GNR Gold PTT>

Hello.
I am Dr. Choi Won-woo, a dermatologist with 23 years of experience.
When acne becomes severe, it can shake up everything from that day’s schedule to everyday life. In particular, when inflammatory acne appears, the pain makes it even harder.
You may have tried treatment repeatedly for inflammatory and pustular acne, only to experience it coming back again.
Why does acne return even after using ointments, medication, care, and lasers?
The reason is simple. Only the visible symptoms were treated, and the fundamental cause was not addressed. Let’s take a look at how this can be solved.

What causes recurrence even after acne treatment?
The fundamental root cause of acne is the “sebaceous glands.” Looking at the acne formation process, sebum secretion first increases due to hormonal changes. As a result, keratin at the opening of the pores thickens and blocks the pores, and sebum cannot escape, building up and allowing acne bacteria to multiply. As this continues to accumulate, it triggers an inflammatory response and eventually leads to a chronic skin condition.
If inflammatory or pustular acne is left untreated, it is highly likely to lead to scarring, pigmentation, and enlarged pores, so prompt treatment is necessary. As Gold PTT emerged as a way to identify and treat the fundamental cause, a rapid change occurred in acne treatment. However, to complement this and provide a more definitive treatment, Wells Dermatology thought about it for a long time, and the answer was “GNR Gold PTT.”
Let’s take a look at the differences between conventional Gold PTT and Wells Dermatology’s GNR (Gold Nano Rod) Gold PTT.
For resolving the fundamental cause, Gold PPT

Gold PTT (Photothermal Therapy) is a treatment method in which tiny gold nanoparticles are delivered into the sebaceous glands inside the pores, and then a laser of a specific wavelength is applied to selectively destroy only the sebaceous glands with heat.
Simply put, it is “a treatment that places small heat bombs (gold particles) into the problematic room (the sebaceous gland), then presses a button (laser) from outside to selectively remove only that room.”
Rather than burning the entire skin, it precisely targets only the area that causes acne. Thanks to this, it has drawn a strong response because it can reduce epidermal damage while clearly targeting the dermis.
Conventional treatments mainly centered on oral antibiotics, acne ointments, extraction, PDT (photodynamic therapy), and peels, but Gold PTT had the major advantage of being able to selectively treat only the necessary area.

However, although Gold PTT procedures may seem the same at every clinic, in reality the structure of the gold particles used can differ.
Some clinics use an elongated rod-shaped structure (GNR, Gold Nano Rod), while others use a spherical structure (SiO2@Au) that looks like a ball, and this structural difference creates differences in laser responsiveness, heat generation efficiency, and treatment effectiveness.
“What is GNR Gold PPT, an acne treatment that goes beyond conventional Gold PTT?”
The structure of conventional Gold PTT is spherical (ball-shaped) gold nanoparticles, while the structure of Wells Dermatology’s GNR Gold PTT is rod-shaped and elongated. Why does this shape affect acne treatment effectiveness?
The biggest reason is the difference in light absorption structure. Both Gold PTT and GNR Gold PTT are laser-based treatments, and the important part in laser treatment is “how well it absorbs light and converts it into heat.”

Because Gold PTT is spherical, the light absorption area is inevitably limited, and as a result, the light absorption efficiency in the near-infrared (NIR) range is necessarily lower. So even when a laser is applied, the heat conversion efficiency is low, which is why GNR Gold PTT was developed in an elongated structure to compensate for this.
GNR Gold PTT consists of elongated gold nanoparticles, which increases the light absorption area and makes it a structure optimized for the near-infrared (NIR) wavelength. As energy absorption naturally increases, heat conversion efficiency also rises, and this can be said to be the major difference between Gold PTT and GNR Gold PTT.
Even if the same amount of laser is applied, the amount of heat generated itself differs, and this clearly determines the direction of fundamental acne treatment.
| Classification | Gold PTT | GNR Gold PTT |
|---|
| Shape | Spherical | Elongated rod shape |
| Crystal structure | Polycrystalline coating | Single crystal |
| NIR responsiveness | Weak | Very strong |
| Photothermal efficiency | Low | High |
| Treatment efficiency | Relatively low efficiency | High efficiency |
| Energy loss | High | Low |
Not every procedure with the name Gold PTT is the same. The treatment structure itself changes depending on which gold particles are used.
Wells Dermatology’s GNR Gold PTT is a structure-based treatment system based on elongated GNR (Gold Nano Rod) particles, with excellent near-infrared laser responsiveness, allowing it to target sebaceous glands more accurately and selectively.

Rather than simply looking for an acne laser procedure, it is important to compare the standards of Gold PTT systems that differ from the particle structure itself.
Conclusion

In summary, when it comes to acne treatment, it is more important than simply calming the current breakouts to look at why they keep recurring and where the problem starts.
If you are concerned about recurring acne, inflammatory acne that does not heal well, or frequent recurring breakouts, you may need a treatment approach that changes from the structure itself, rather than simple care.
If you are still hesitant about acne treatment or want a definite improvement, please consult a specialist.
Thank you for reading this long post.
