Mounjaro is an injectable medication containing tirzepatide,
a dual-action drug that works on both GLP-1 and GIP receptors.

It reduces intake by suppressing appetite and delaying gastric emptying,
and it also plays a role in regulating insulin secretion.
In overseas clinical studies, an average body weight reduction of
about 15–20% was reported after 72 weeks of use.
However, results vary greatly depending on an individual’s baseline weight,
eating habits, and whether they exercise.

Mounjaro
During the initial 4 weeks, the amount of weight loss may not be large,
and changes typically appear as the dose is gradually increased.
Rather than aiming for rapid short-term weight loss, it is more realistic to
plan for at least 6 months of use.
Prescribing criteria and eligible candidates
Mounjaro is a prescription medication and is prescribed
based on the clinician’s judgment.

Mounjaro
In general, it is indicated for people with a BMI of 30 or higher, or 27 or higher
when metabolic conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, or dyslipidemia
are also present.
The priority is health management rather than purely cosmetic purposes.
Use is restricted in cases with a history of medullary thyroid cancer or
multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome.

Before starting, liver function, a history of pancreatic disease, and whether
any medications are currently being taken are checked.
Prescribing criteria are not determined by body weight alone;
the overall condition of the body is assessed comprehensively.
Dosage steps and how to use it
This medication starts at 2.5 mg and is increased at 4-week intervals.

After that, it can be adjusted to 5 mg, 7.5 mg, 10 mg, 12.5 mg, and 15 mg.
The dose is adjusted according to the individual’s tolerance and rate of weight loss.
It is administered subcutaneously in the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm,
and it should be injected on the same day each week.

Nausea may occur early on, so the low-dose maintenance period may be extended.
Because long-term use is assumed for treatment purposes, if it is stopped arbitrarily in the middle,
weight may increase again.
Side effects, alcohol, and pregnancy-related precautions
The most common side effects are gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea,
vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation.

These usually appear during the initial dose-escalation period and improve over time.
Rarely, pancreatitis and gallbladder disease have been reported, so if persistent abdominal pain occurs,
an evaluation is needed.

Alcohol is not a direct contraindication, but excessive drinking is not recommended because it may increase
gastrointestinal irritation and the risk of hypoglycemia.
If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, you should stop using it,
and discontinuation should be considered at least 2 months in advance.

Mounjaro
The price varies depending on the medical institution and whether insurance coverage applies,
and it is often not covered by insurance at present.
Because long-term use is assumed, the cost burden and maintenance plan should
be considered together.
