When looking into Wegovy,
many people ask,
“Is there a pill too?”
To put it simply,
there used to be only the injectable form,
but recently a pill form has also appeared.

However, in Korea,
it has not yet become a standard prescription form,
so
it is important to understand the differences
in access and usage conditions.
Today, I will explain whether a Wegovy pill actually exists,
differences from the injection, effects, and how to take it.

- Does a Wegovy pill actually exist?
Recently in the United States,
a Wegovy oral form has been approved,
so it is true that there is now an option besides the injection.
Wegovy pill
This pill uses the same semaglutide ingredient as the existing injection,
but it is designed to be taken once a day.
However, the important point is that
in Korea, it has not yet become a commonly prescribed form.

Also, among products distributed online under the name
“oral Wegovy,”
there may be cases that are not official medicines,
so you need to distinguish carefully.
- What is different between the injection and the pill?
The biggest difference between the two methods
is the administration method and the conditions for taking it.

The injectable form is used as a once-weekly subcutaneous injection
and has the feature that it can be used
without much relation to meals.
On the other hand, the pill form
is taken once a day,
but because of its absorption structure,
the conditions for taking it are much stricter.
Wegovy pill
It must be taken on an empty stomach,
and after taking it with water,
food and beverages must be restricted
for a certain period of time.

The reason these restrictions are necessary is that
the drug is easily broken down in the stomach,
so conditions are needed to maintain its absorption rate.
- How much difference is there in effect?
For the pill form of Wegovy,
clinical data have reported about 13–16% weight loss.
Wegovy pill
This is often evaluated as a similar level to the
approximately 15% change confirmed with the existing injection.
In other words, rather than a major difference in effectiveness between the injection and the pill,
it is more appropriate to understand the difference as being in the method of taking it.

However, because the pill has a structure with lower absorption,
it is characterized by using a relatively higher dose than the injection.
This is the core structural difference
between the two methods.
- How to take it and what to be careful about
The pill form is structured so that the way it is taken
directly affects the result.
Wegovy pill
The basic method is to take it on an empty stomach immediately after waking up,
swallow it with water,
and then restrict food and beverages
for a certain period of time.

If this process is not followed,
absorption may decrease,
which can also lead to differences in how strongly the effects are felt.
In addition, side effects may appear similarly to the injectable form,
and
nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and headaches
may be reported as gastrointestinal reactions.
Therefore, rather than assuming it is safer simply because it is a pill,
it is necessary to understand it as a drug in the same class.
