Hello, this is Director Lee Hyeonjeong of Areumduri Dental Clinic : )
As a office worker came into the consultation room, the first thing they said was, "Director, is it really true that you don’t shave down the teeth?" I’ve been getting this question a lot lately, so today I’d like to talk about no-prep laminate from a slightly different perspective.

Why are people so enthusiastic about no-prep?
While treating patients, I come across a truly interesting phenomenon.
Ten years ago, people wanted things "fast and decisive, all at once," but now they place more importance on "natural, even if it takes time, while preserving the teeth." This tendency is especially strong among office workers in their 30s and 40s and people who work in the entertainment field.
Why is that? Perhaps because living in the age of social media has made us value "natural beauty" more highly. Rather than teeth that are obviously white and perfectly aligned like before, people want a smile that feels natural yet refined, as if it had always been that way.

The real reason celebrities choose no-prep laminate
In fact, no-prep laminate has already been the trend in the entertainment industry for several years.
Why is that? Because of filming schedules. Traditional laminate requires shaving down the teeth, so for a few days after the procedure, people may become sensitive to cold or hot foods and drinks. But celebrities have filming the very next day, and they also have to shoot food ads or beverage ads.
No-prep laminate does not touch the teeth at all, so daily life is possible even on the day of treatment. It is to the point where you could even eat lunch and go straight into a shoot in the afternoon.

The limitations of no-prep that dentists don’t talk about
No-prep laminate is not a cure-all.
If the tooth color is too dark or the shape is significantly irregular, there are limitations. And if the teeth are too small or the gum line is irregular, it may be difficult to achieve a perfect result with no-prep alone.
That is why we speak honestly during consultations. We say, "This degree of change is possible with no-prep, but if you want a more dramatic transformation, you should consider another method."
I think claiming that no-prep is always the best is dishonest.

A treatment philosophy that considers the next 10 years
What I always emphasize to patients is "10 years from now."
It is important for teeth to look beautiful right now, but it is even more important whether they can remain healthy and beautiful 10 years from now. Gangnam no-prep laminate is a very good choice from this perspective.
Because the teeth are not shaved down, there are still various treatment options available if problems arise later. On the other hand, once a tooth has been shaved, it cannot be restored.
This long-term perspective is especially important for younger patients. I have seen too many people in their 20s and 30s shave down too much of their teeth on impulse, only to regret it in their 40s and 50s.

Do people in their 20s and 40s choose no-prep for different reasons?
I made a truly interesting discovery. The reasons people choose Gangnam no-prep laminate are completely different by age group.
People in their 20s and 30s honestly say, "Because of social media." They want to look natural when taking selfies or recording videos. "It must not look obvious; it should look like my original teeth" is the key phrase for this age group.
On the other hand, people in their 40s and 50s say it is because of "health." They say things like, "I’ve already had my teeth worked on a lot with cavity treatment, and I don’t want to shave them down any more," or "I want to keep using my own teeth as I get older."
Once I understood these differences, the way I approach consultations changed too. I think I emphasize aesthetic results more for younger patients and long-term health more for older patients.

Shall we honestly talk about the price?
I get a lot of inquiries about Gangnam no-prep laminate pricing.
It is true that it is more expensive than traditional laminate. That is because it requires more precise techniques and better materials. But think about it. If you can achieve the result you want without shaving down the teeth, isn’t that value beyond money?
Moreover, in the long term, it may actually be more economical. With traditional laminate, when retreatment is needed after 10 to 15 years, tooth damage accumulates, but with no-prep, there is no such worry.

No-prep laminate, changes that can alter your life
After getting Gangnam no-prep laminate, there are some interesting changes that appear.
The most common thing I hear is, "I gained confidence." One patient said, "Before, I used to cover my mouth with my hand when I smiled, but now I smile broadly."
What is even more interesting is that once the teeth look better, people start paying more attention to their overall appearance. The lipstick color changes, the hairstyle changes... changes occur like a domino effect.
One person even said, "Because my teeth look better, I wanted to live more healthily. I quit smoking and started getting regular checkups."
Seeing this, I feel that it is not just the shape of the teeth that changes, but the way of life itself. That is why I feel even more responsible.
Lastly, teeth are precious assets that you have to use for your entire life.
Do not create a lifetime of regret through one impulsive decision. Think it through carefully, get consultations from multiple places, and choose the place that can provide the most conservative yet satisfying result.
Areumduri Dental Clinic always treats patients with their next 10 years and 20 years in mind. While a beautiful smile right now is important, we believe that maintaining healthy teeth for life is even more important : )
