Hello, I’m Lee Hyun-jung, the CEO and head dentist of Areumdri Dental Clinic.
I always make it my top priority to preserve my patients’ natural teeth as much as possible while creating beautiful smiles, and I do my best to make treatment as comfortable as possible. :)

"I want laminate veneers, but I’m scared of having my teeth shaved down."
If you are reading this post now, you are probably someone who worries a lot about your front teeth but feels burdened by tooth reduction.
"I want to change to white teeth like a celebrity, but they say healthy teeth have to be shaved down..."
"What if I regret getting laminate veneers later?"
"I heard teeth become sensitive if they’re shaved down. Is that really okay?"
You may have been hesitant because of these concerns. After looking through online communities or blogs, you may have seen posts like "side effects of laminate veneers" or "regret after tooth reduction," which likely made your worries even greater.
Today, for those of you with these concerns, I want to honestly explain whether "laminate veneers without tooth shaving" are really possible. If you refer to the information below, you may find a way to create "a beautiful smile without damaging your natural teeth." :)

"No-prep? Does that really mean nothing is shaved at all?"
No-prep laminate veneers do not mean that teeth are 100% absolutely never shaved. More precisely:
Full no-prep: attached directly without touching the tooth surface at all
Minimal prep: only about 0.1–0.2 mm is lightly adjusted
If conventional laminate veneers require 0.5–0.7 mm of reduction, no-prep laminate veneers involve either shaving only about the thickness of a strand of hair or not shaving at all.

When is no-prep possible?
"Doctor, can I have it done without any shaving too?"
I get this question a lot, but to be honest, it depends on the case:
Cases where full no-prep is possible
-
When the front teeth are small or positioned inward
-
When there is space between the teeth
-
When there is not severe discoloration
Cases where minimal prep is needed
-
When the front teeth are already large
-
When the teeth are protruding forward
-
When there are existing fillings
Could it become too thick and look unnatural?
Here’s how we address thickness concerns

"If it’s no-prep, won’t the laminate veneers be bonded too thickly and look like buck teeth?"
That can actually happen if the procedure is done poorly. That’s why Areumdri Dental Clinic handles this issue in the following ways.

*Uses ultra-thin 0.2 mm laminate veneers
Uses materials that are much thinner than standard laminate veneers (0.5–0.7 mm)
*Custom design based on tooth shape
Individually designed to match each person’s lip thickness and gum line
*Try it in advance with temporary veneers
Before the main procedure, try them temporarily and make adjustments if they feel uncomfortable
"I want to create a smile that looks natural, as if it has always belonged to that person, not something awkward or unnatural."

Other clinics said it couldn’t be done...
Why do clinics give different answers?
From what patients who have actually had consultations say:
Clinic A: "No-prep is impossible. It has to be shaved down."
Clinic B: "No-prep is possible, but it doesn’t bond well."
Clinic C: "Even with shaving, it can still look beautiful."
Why are the answers so different? The reason is simple:
No-prep requires far more precise technique than standard laminate veneers
Differences in equipment and materials It is only possible with the latest bonding systems and ultra-thin ceramics
Differences in experience and know-how It depends on whether the clinic has done many no-prep cases or not

What changes can you expect after treatment at a no-prep laminate dentistry clinic?
*Natural appearance
Because the teeth are not shaved down, the natural shape of the original teeth is maintained
*No sensitivity
Because the areas close to the dental nerve are not touched, they do not become sensitive to temperature changes
*Quick adjustment
Since the shape is similar to the existing teeth, the adjustment period for speaking and eating is short
*Restored confidence
With a naturally improved smile, you can feel more confident when taking photos or talking

So, is it really possible in my case?
Check at home first. If you look in the mirror and check, you can get a rough idea of whether it may be possible.
🟢 High chance no-prep is possible
