9-Month Review of Invisalign Treatment for Crowded Teeth

Today, I would like to introduce Invisalign treatment for crowded teeth.

With conventional braces using wires, such as Clippy-C, patient compliance is not required.

Patients only need to visit once a month and be careful with hard foods so that the appliances do not come off.

In contrast, patient compliance is very important with Invisalign treatment.

In short, treatment goes well when the aligners are worn properly.

In this post, I will share the nine-month treatment journey of a patient who wore the aligners diligently.

The patient had an anterior crossbite, while the crowded premolars showed a scissors bite.

The patient first visited in October 2023 for Invisalign orthodontic treatment.

The midline was also misaligned by approximately 2 mm.

We decided to treat the cavities visible in the photographs one by one during the Invisalign treatment.

The patient also wanted the old amalgam fillings replaced with tooth-colored restorations.

We decided to carry out these treatments along the way.

It is not necessary to complete all cavity treatments before starting Invisalign treatment.

Unless the cavity is extensive enough to require a crown, treatment with either composite resin or an inlay can be performed at any point during treatment.

However, crown treatment may significantly change the shape of the tooth, which could cause the Invisalign aligners not to fit properly.

This should be discussed with the treating dentist.

This is the appearance after wearing all 19 aligners in the first set, from November 2023, when the patient began wearing the appliances, through March 2024.

The results were good because the patient wore the aligners diligently.

However, the amount by which the upper lateral incisors covered the lower front teeth was shallow, and we also wanted to further reduce the black triangles between the front teeth, so we proceeded with making additional aligners.

After waiting about a month to receive the additional aligners, the patient wore them diligently for three months, from April to July 2023.

Toward the end of the additional-aligner treatment, gum contouring was also performed to align the gum line indicated by the blue arrows.

And this month, the treatment was finally completed.

The black triangles were eliminated with the additional aligners.

The bite, which many people are concerned about, is also good.

The angle of the front teeth is neither flared outward nor excessively tilted inward.

The patient first visited in October 2023 and completed treatment in July 2024. Excluding the two one-month periods spent waiting for aligner fabrication, the actual treatment period during which the aligners were worn was approximately eight months.
