Hello.
Today, I’d like to introduce partial orthodontic treatment for the front teeth.
Orthodontics that excludes the molars and simply aligns the front teeth is called partial orthodontics.
Rapid orthodontics, short-term orthodontics, and front-tooth orthodontics all mean the same thing.

Partial orthodontic treatment for the front teeth is typically planned with a maximum treatment period of 6 months.
However, if you want to overcome the limitations of partial front-tooth orthodontics and achieve better results, elastic bands may also be used, and in some cases the treatment period becomes a little longer.
Today, I’ll share a review of partial front-tooth orthodontics, rapid orthodontics, buck teeth correction, MTA minitube, interproximal reduction, and a 9-month treatment period.
This patient came in for partial front-tooth orthodontics in December 2023.

The two front teeth are large and positioned downward.
You can also see a crowded premolar marked by the blue arrow.
The lower front teeth are quite crooked.

The molar bite was not in very good condition, but the patient did not feel any discomfort while chewing and only wanted the front teeth aligned.

After considering everything, including the treatment period, cost, and the patient’s situation, we gave up on some things and proceeded with partial orthodontic treatment for the front teeth.
We decided that if the patient ever has the time and means later on, they would undergo full orthodontic treatment again.
In partial orthodontics, the space needed to align the front teeth is gained through a small amount of interproximal reduction.
For the appliance, the patient chose the MTA device for partial front-tooth orthodontics, and treatment began.

This is how it looked 9 months after treatment began.
To eliminate the tiny gaps between the front teeth, a power chain elastic was applied, and

an elastic band that the patient can remove and reinsert themselves was placed between the rings shown in the photo to adjust the midline and the left-right bite as well.
And before long, 9 months had passed.

The MTA appliance was attached only to the front teeth from canine to canine for alignment, and the remaining premolars and molars were not moved.
Finally, the treatment was completed in September 2024.

The crowded premolar marked by the blue arrow is the imperfection, right?
It’s a shame, but considering the cost, time, and effort the patient invested, the rapid partial front-tooth orthodontic treatment alone already produced good results, so I’ll just close one eye.

The retainer is also attached. The total treatment period was 9 months.
Now, let’s look at the before-and-after comparison photos.

Using elastic bands also improved the canine bite relationship.

Neat front-tooth alignment and wire retainer
Now let’s look at the facial profile changes.

23.12~24.09
The front teeth, which had looked especially large compared with the surrounding teeth, no longer look as large once the height and alignment were corrected.

Because the front teeth were aligned with interproximal reduction, they did not protrude compared with the beginning and remained stable, and the originally nice lip line was also well maintained.

Since this was partial orthodontic treatment, there was no root resorption, and root parallelism is also good.
I hope this post helps those who hesitate because they think orthodontic treatment will take a long time.
