Hello
Apgujeong orthodontic clinic
Apgujeong Invisalign, Apgujeong Yonsei Baro Dental Clinic.
Today's post is an introduction to treating scissor bite and gaps with Invisalign Lite.
This is a patient who came in hoping to resolve a scissor bite with Invisalign Lite.
Q1. Can a scissor bite be treated with Invisalign Lite?
A. In general, a scissor bite is a malocclusion that can be challenging, but if the amount of tooth movement is limited, it can often be improved sufficiently with Invisalign Lite. In particular, as in this case, using mini-screws (implant anchorage) together can increase movement efficiency and expand the treatment range even with the Lite package.
Q2. In what cases is Invisalign Lite suitable?
A. Invisalign Lite is suitable for relatively mild to moderate alignment problems, partial spacing issues, and mild bite irregularities. However, if auxiliary devices (such as mini-screws) are used together, the range of applications can become broader.

23.07-24.05
This was a case that could be treated with Invisalign Lite by placing mini-screws.

23.7
The treatment ended after 11 months.
The midline discrepancy and the scissor bite on the outside of the back right molar are clearly visible from the front as well.

23.07
The scissor bite of the back right molar is visible, and on the left, the spaces between the canine and front teeth are visible.

We used Invisalign Lite to address all of these issues and began treatment.
After wearing all 14 appliances of the first set over about 5 months, from July 2023 to December 2023, this is the result.

23.12
The scissor bite and the open spaces have already been resolved.

23.12
The midline is also well aligned.
Additional aligners are being made to finish the black triangles and the small spaces between the teeth.

Because the scissor bite had been completely improved in the first set, the mini-screws were removed on the day it was decided to make the additional aligners.
You may be wondering what the area looks like after the mini-screws are removed.
I will show you the result at the end.
The additional aligners were ordered in December 2023, and they arrived in January 2024.
After wearing the additional aligners for another four months to finish the detailed areas and small spaces, the treatment was completed in May 2024.

Q Is it true that Invisalign does not properly correct the bite?
A. That is a partial misunderstanding. If an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan are made, and auxiliary devices are used when needed, Invisalign can certainly create a functionally stable bite. As in this case, there are many results in which even the molar bite is stably finished.

The bite of the right maxillary second molar, which had been a scissor bite, is also being maintained well.

23.07~24.05
The arch shape and alignment are well established, and when it was remade, the area where the mini-screw had been removed does not bite together well, so there is no trace.
In some cases, a small scar may remain, but in many cases, no scar remains either.
I hope this was helpful for those preparing for orthodontic treatment.
