Hello, this is Eight Plastic Surgery. Today, we’d like to talk about Mentor implants, which many people considering breast augmentation are curious about.
Among Mentor implants, the representative options are Mentor Extra and Mentor Smooth, aside from the recently released Mentor Boost.
Today, we’ll talk about the differences between Extra and Smooth.

Basically, Mentor can be said to be an implant that is very suitable for those who prioritize safety. It has a long history, and it is known as the only brand of implants used in breast augmentation whose outer shell and inner shell have both been certified by the FDA. The FDA is an organization with the strictest testing standards, and the fact that it has received FDA approval means that it has undergone sufficient testing and verification in terms of safety.
There are various types, but the most commonly used types are Mentor Smooth and Extra. You can think of these two types as differing in the degree of fill rate.

Smooth (Classic) has been used for a long time, so it has sufficient data on breast augmentation, and its fill rate is known to be about 85%.
Extra is filled more precisely and is known to have a 100% fill rate. Because of this, the cost burden is somewhat lower compared to Smooth.
Because Extra has a higher fill rate, it has the characteristic of a relatively lower possibility of dimpling and rippling.
It is also divided into three detailed types: Moderate Plus, Moderate High, and High Profile. This classification is based on the implant’s various volume ranges. However, since the Moderate High type was supplied only to medical institutions with proven expertise, it may be out of stock, so it is best to check in advance.

Of course, you may think that the Extra type is a premium implant, so it must always be better. However, in breast augmentation, it is important to make an appropriate choice by considering each person’s physical characteristics, the condition of the breast tissue, and personal preferences.
For example, for people who already have a certain amount of breast tissue, if the procedure is done with Smooth rather than Extra, the feel may actually be softer and more natural. Considering that the cost difference between Mentor Smooth and Mentor Extra is around 2 to 3 million KRW, the financial burden is also lower. On the other hand, for slim body types or people with less breast tissue, Extra may be more suitable.
Recently, the Mentor Boost type has also been introduced. This new implant is known to have a better feel and superior viscoelasticity than Extra.

Of course, in breast augmentation, it is fundamentally important to consider physical characteristics, the condition of the breast tissue, the detailed condition of the breasts, and personal preferences.
To choose the right implant, it may be helpful to make a specific plan while predicting the results through three-dimensional analysis such as 3D Vectra.

In addition, since safety is considered the most important aspect of breast augmentation, it is also important to check whether the clinic has an operating room CCTV system, an air shower system, and various safety systems. It is also a good idea to check whether they have postoperative care programs such as Full HD endoscopy, the Air Contact system, SmartLux, and Capsulitis.
