When determining someone’s first impression,
the eyes are the biggest factor.
Beautiful eyes are something people of all ages and genders hope for,
so many people choose double eyelid surgery.
In the past, only clear and large eyes were preferred,
but now it seems that people favor
a variety of eye shapes that suit the face line.
For beautiful eyes that bring out your own individuality,
from choosing a clinic before surgery to consultation and the procedure itself,
you need to put in quite a lot of time and effort.
But surprisingly, many people neglect care before and after surgery,
and as a result, fail to get the double eyelid line they wanted.
So today, I’m going to share how to care for your eyes before and after eye plastic surgery.
Usually, the clinic prints out precautions after surgery and gives them to you.
In addition to what is written on the paper they hand out,
I’ve gathered some real, practical tips you should follow.

No drinking or smoking after surgery
Smoking and drinking interfere with blood circulation and scar healing.
No matter how hard it is, please make sure to avoid alcohol and smoking for at least 2 weeks after surgery!

Makeup and contact lenses after one month
If you have something urgent, you can briefly wear contact lenses starting in the second week,
but wearing them before then can be uncomfortable because of the swelling in your eyes,
and it may also affect the double eyelids and cause them to loosen.
That is why we recommend wearing contact lenses only after one month!

How to wear glasses properly
If you wear glasses and lower them to look down,
the line will not form nicely.
To wear glasses in a way that helps preserve the line,
raise them snugly, tuck your chin in, and look 15 degrees upward!

How to wash your face after makeup
Makeup is fine once 2 weeks have passed after the stitches are removed,
but the inside of the skin is still in the process of healing,
so until 3 months have passed,
you should not rub too hard when removing makeup.

Practice opening your eyes
You need to practice opening your eyes properly for the double eyelids to settle in nicely.
Start practicing from about 1 week after surgery, once the swelling has gone down a little!
The method is simple.
Hold and stabilize the area above your eyebrows with your hand,
then tuck in your head and chin,
and look upward while opening and closing your eyes using the strength of your eyes.
If you do this often whenever you have time,
the double eyelids will settle in neatly and take shape.

How to do cold compresses properly
After surgery, you need to do cold compresses,
but did you know there is a proper way to do them?
Usually, the clinic gives you a sunglasses-shaped ice pack,
and most people place it directly on top of their eyes.
But if you do that, it presses on the eyes,
which compresses the tissues inside
and can cause overlapping double eyelids or make the double eyelid fold loosen.
When applying a cold compress, do not put it directly over the eyes;
instead, cool the area evenly around the eyes!

Q. The double eyelids look uneven
Because the swelling is different in each eye,
the size of the double eyelids cannot be the same immediately after surgery.
If you keep coming in for follow-up checks at the clinic and resting comfortably,
the two sides will become the same, so there is no need to worry too much.
Q. It has been a month, but the scar looks worse
Scars naturally go through a phase of becoming redder around the one-month mark compared to right after surgery.
Usually, the scar becomes less noticeable after 2 to 3 months,
but if the scar becomes too raised,
it can be reduced with oral medication or injections.
The reason you come to the clinic for follow-up visits is to check for things like this,
so make sure not to miss your follow-up appointments according to the schedule!
Q. Is it better to apply scar ointment?
Scar ointments are certainly used when applied to other parts of the body,
but because ointments themselves are sticky,
they can interfere with the double eyelid fold forming properly.
To prevent excessive scar tissue from developing,
we recommend controlling it more with scar injections or oral medication.
Q. Can I have surgery if I have keloids?
Double eyelid surgery is possible.
Regardless of keloids, some people have a constitution that causes excessive scar tissue to form,
and for those people, taking oral medication for about 1 to 2 weeks can help control it.
Q. My vision is blurry after double eyelid surgery
After surgery, temporary astigmatism may occur,
but it usually improves after 2 weeks to about one month.
If it is very uncomfortable, artificial tears may help.
Q. When can I have LASIK surgery?
Because during double eyelid surgery
the eyes may be pressed or rubbed,
if you have already had LASIK/LASEK,
we recommend having double eyelid surgery about one month later.
Conversely, if you had double eyelid surgery first,
having LASIK/LASEK surgery 2 weeks later
will allow you to undergo the procedure safely without problems.
We’ve gone over the precautions after double eyelid surgery
that many people are curious about.
