we understand what a semi-outer line is... but what exactly is the definition of a semi-outer line?

A semi-outer line is a double eyelid line whose starting point near the inner corner of the eye is slightly away from the inner corner rather than being attached to it.

For easier understanding, let’s compare it with the lines you commonly know.

First is the outer line, which many people recognize as a glamorous line. Both the outer line and the semi-outer line are lines that are separated from the inner corner of the eye, but as the name suggests, the semi-outer line is smaller than the outer line. On the other hand, compared with the inner line, which has a smaller line and gives a cute impression, it has a somewhat larger line, so you can think of it as being between the outer line and the inner line.

Also, in cases of sunken eyes, strong epicanthic folds, or when the eyes are close together so that canthoplasty cannot be performed, or in eyes where the slope near the inner corner is very sharply angled even without an epicanthic fold, a semi-outer line may be the only option.

Conversely, there are cases where a semi-outer line is not suitable. If a semi-outer line is forced even though it does not suit the person, the front and back of the double eyelid may look loosened, or the double eyelid line may become too thick and risk looking like sausage eyes.

Having a semi-outer line does not necessarily mean that canthoplasty must be done at the same time.

It can be divided into cases with an epicanthic fold and cases without one. If there is an epicanthic fold, it can interfere with creating the line, such as making an inner line become an outer line, or making an outer line become an inner line. If the epicanthic fold interferes with creating the line like this, canthoplasty is recommended.

The surgical method for a semi-outer line is the same as general double eyelid surgery.

If there is significant sagging skin or too much fat, the procedure will be done with an incision method that removes unnecessary skin and fat while creating the double eyelid line, and if there is little sagging skin, the procedure will be done with a non-incision method or the natural adhesion method.

There are also cases where revision surgery is performed after having a semi-outer line.

If the semi-outer line does not suit one’s own eyes but was forced anyway, revision surgery may be necessary.
