From pre-op precautions for a safe surgery

to post-op care methods for a clear result,

we’ll explain the pre- and post-surgery care that is more important than the surgery itself.

Pre-op precautions

Medications such as aspirin, or nutritional supplements like red ginseng,

that help blood circulation,

can cause excessive bruising during surgery,

so it is usually best to stop taking them about a week beforehand.

However! If you have high blood pressure, you should, on the contrary,

take your blood pressure medication before coming.

Blood pressure must be well controlled for the surgery to finish without bleeding issues.

During surgery, to monitor your condition,

a pulse oximeter is attached to a fingernail or toenail,

so it is best to remove all nail polish,

but if you remove it from at least one finger on each hand,

there should be no problem.

Also, many people have eyelash extensions before double eyelid surgery,

but if those lashes fall out during surgery and get into the eye,

they can interfere with the procedure,

so be sure to remove them before surgery.

Metal piercings can pose a risk of electric shock or burns,

so it is best to remove them before coming.

Depending on the surgery, if sleep anesthesia is used,

food in the stomach can sometimes cause breathing problems.

So you should not even drink water for at least 4 to 6 hours beforehand.

There is one exception: if you have high blood pressure,

you must take your blood pressure medication in the morning even while fasting.

Then there will be no problem.

If you often use double eyelid tape,

it creates swelling in the skin,

so you should stop using double eyelid glue or tape at least a week in advance

so there will be no problem with the surgical double eyelid design.

On the day of surgery, you will change into a hospital gown at the clinic,

so if you wear clothes that are easy to change out of,

it will be much more convenient. Also, please do not wear makeup on the day of surgery,

and just come with moisturizer on.

After surgery, you will not be able to wear contact lenses,

so you must bring your glasses, and if you bring sunglasses or

a hat, it will be more comfortable when you go home,

so it would be good to prepare them.

It takes at least a day for alcohol in the body to be broken down,

so no matter how nervous you may feel before surgery,

you must come having quit smoking and drinking,

so the surgery can finish without problems. 🚭

After surgery, smoking or drinking can interfere with blood circulation or

leave more scarring,

so you must avoid them for at least 2 weeks, and up to a month,

so the wound can heal cleanly.

Post-op precautions

If you have something urgent after surgery, it is possible to wear them briefly starting from the second week,

but if you wear them before that, there will be swelling in the eyes,

which can be uncomfortable and may also affect the double eyelid line, causing it to loosen.

For comfortable use, we recommend wearing them after one month.

Makeup is fine two weeks after stitch removal,

but because the inside is still healing, up to 3 months you should be careful

not to rub too hard when removing makeup.

Practicing how to open your eyes is one of the most important parts of post-op care.

If you practice opening your eyes properly, the double eyelids will settle in beautifully.

It is best to start from the first week, when the swelling has gone down a little.

Here is how to practice opening your eyes:

1. Fix the skin above the eyebrows with your hand
2. Pull in your neck and chin.
3. Look upward and open and close your eyes using the muscles around the eyes.

If you practice often whenever you have time, the double eyelid line will settle in nicely from the inside.

Washing your face is, in principle, possible after 48 hours.

After washing lightly and drying, apply the eye ointment prescribed by the clinic,

and you can manage it without major problems.

After surgery, cold compresses are needed to help reduce swelling.

Usually, after surgery, the clinic gives you a compress pack to place on the eyes,

but if you place it directly on top of the eyes and press down,

the tissue inside can be compressed,

which may lead to a double-folded double eyelid line or cause the double eyelid to loosen.

So when doing a cold compress, do not place it directly on top;

instead, gently cool the areas around the eyes evenly, rather than directly on the eyelids.

Myths and facts before and after double eyelid surgery

Right after surgery, the swelling on both sides is different, so it is rare for them to look the same immediately.

If you keep an eye on your recovery at the clinic and rest comfortably,

at some point, as time passes, the lines will become the same,

so there is no need to worry too much.

Scars can suddenly become redder around one month than they were at first,

but after 2 to 3 months, the scars become barely visible.

If the scar becomes excessively raised, it can be calmed with oral medication or injections,

so don’t worry too much and visit according to the schedule;

you will be able to receive the appropriate prescription!

Scar ointment is certainly effective when applied to other parts of the body,

but because the ointment itself has a sticky consistency,

it can interfere with the folding of the double eyelid.

To prevent excessive scarring from developing, it is much better to manage it with things like scar injections or oral medication.

Some people have a tendency for large red fleshy bumps to form when they wear earrings in their ears,

but fortunately, this does not affect the eye area,

so you can have the surgery comfortably without worry.

After surgery, temporary astigmatism can occur,

but in most cases it returns within two weeks to a month.

If it feels very uncomfortable, artificial tears can help.

During the surgery, the eyes may be pressed or rubbed,

so if you have already had LASIK or LASEK surgery,

we recommend having double eyelid surgery about a month later.

Conversely, if you had double eyelid surgery first,

you can safely undergo LASIK or LASEK after 2 weeks.
