Hello. I’m Kim Soondong, the chief director of Soon Plus Plastic Surgery and a board-certified plastic surgeon.

Today, I’ll talk about the types of epicanthoplasty revision surgery.

The first is restoration of the lacrimal caruncle area.

This is generally what people think of as epicanthoplasty restoration or epicanthoplasty revision.

'I had too much epicanthoplasty.' / 'After epicanthoplasty, too much of the red part shows, and I want to cover it.'

These are the most common reasons for this type of epicanthoplasty restoration surgery.

The second is scar restoration.

If a scar remains after epicanthoplasty, the surgery to remove this scar is the second type, scar restoration.

The third is for cases where there is both scarring and a desire to cover the lacrimal caruncle area.

This is when there are knife-like incision marks near the inner corner, and the lacrimal caruncle has also been exposed too much.

In such cases, surgery may be possible only if there is a certain amount of excess skin.

If there is enough excess skin, the scar can be directly removed while also covering the lacrimal caruncle area.

If there is not enough excess skin, the scar is not removed directly;

instead, it is made less noticeable while restoring the lacrimal caruncle area.

The fourth is re-revision surgery.

When procedures shown in the [epicanthoplasty restoration] video on Soon Plus’s official YouTube channel are used, there are cases where signs remain noticeable even after restoration surgery.

If a Mongolian fold has formed too much / if the epicanthoplasty restoration was excessive / if the restoration was not enough these are cases for this surgery. If the epicanthoplasty restoration was insufficient, more restoration surgery is performed. If it was done too much, the epicanthoplasty can be reopened.

However, the problem arises when a Mongolian fold has formed.

In such cases, surgery to remove the Mongolian fold band and surgery to accurately create the lacrimal caruncle area must be performed at the same time.

Lastly, there are cases where restoration surgery is performed even though no prior surgery was done.

If someone has never had epicanthoplasty before, but the lacrimal caruncle is overly exposed or the angle is too steep, correction is performed through epicanthoplasty restoration surgery.
