Hello. This is Sunplus Plastic Surgery · Dermatology.
Today, we’ll take a look at Thermage / Ulthera, which can be called the king of laser lifting.

First, looking at when Thermage and Ulthera were introduced,
Thermage is a radiofrequency lifting device that first received U.S. FDA approval in 2002
for the purpose of “improving wrinkles around the eyes.”
It is one of the oldest non-surgical lifting devices.
Ulthera was approved by the U.S. FDA later than Thermage, in 2009,
and is a high-intensity focused ultrasound lifting device.
As both devices are upgraded to newer versions,
the pain during treatment tends to gradually decrease,
and our clinic has the latest versions of both Ulthera / Thermage devices,
so treatment can be done even without sedation while reducing the burden.

However, because the degree of pain may vary depending on each patient’s skin thickness / pain sensitivity / treatment intensity, etc.,
it is important to make a decision after 충분한 consultation with the medical staff before the procedure.
Who are the recommended candidates for Ulthera / Thermage?

Ulthera is recommended for people in their 30s to early 40s whose skin has begun to sag,
and it is especially recommended when the cheeks, jawline, or double chin line have started to lose firmness.
If facial contours are not clearly defined
If you feel that the flesh is sagging downward
If lifting needs to reach the SMAS layer (fascial layer)
If surgery involving incisions feels burdensome
If you want a natural-looking lift, Ulthera is recommended.

Thermage is recommended for people in their 30s to 50s with thin skin and many fine lines,
and it may be effective for improving wrinkles in areas with thin skin, such as around the eyes, around the mouth, and the neck.
If you do not have much facial fat and need improvement in skin elasticity and skin texture
If you are concerned about reduced firmness on the skin surface
If enlarged pores bother you
If you need improvement in loose skin texture
If you want both firmness improvement and wrinkle reduction at the same time, Thermage is recommended.

To summarize the key points of the two procedures:
Ulthera is for lifting deep sagging.
A laser suitable for the jawline / cheeks / double chin
Thermage is for lifting to improve skin texture, firmness, and fine wrinkles.
A laser suitable for the skin around the eyes / around the mouth / neck
Because Ulthera and Thermage work on different layers,
when the two procedures are performed together,
their complementary effects can improve overall satisfaction and results compared with a single procedure.
Jawline/cheek lifting = Ulthera
Skin texture/wrinkle lifting = Thermage
With these effects, a more three-dimensional and comprehensive improvement can be expected.
As for the duration of the results, compared with performing each device alone,
when the procedures are done together, a synergy effect appears,
and a duration of more than 1 year can also be expected.
In conclusion,
If sagging is the main concern, Ulthera is recommended.
If fine wrinkles, firmness, and skin texture are the concern, Thermage is recommended.
If you are considering the issue more broadly,
a combined treatment with both lasers may be the most effective.
However, even if it is an excellent and effective laser device,
it cannot be applied to all skin types,
so it is important to make a decision after 충분한 consultation with a specialist medical team with extensive experience and know-how.
