What is ptosis?

It refers to a condition in which the eyelid droops because the muscle that opens the eyes becomes loose or weak for various reasons.

Ptosis is often largely genetic, but it can also occur due to habits, after eye surgery, illness, or accidents.

Typical symptoms of ptosis include feeling that opening the eyes is heavy and uncomfortable, which can lead to fatigue, and using the forehead excessively, resulting in many fine lines on the forehead.

If these fine lines persist for a long time, they can become deep wrinkles.

This symptom can make you look older, and if it is not addressed, deep wrinkles may remain even at a young age.

Simple drooping of the eyelid can be corrected by removing tissue through upper blepharoplasty, but if the problem is with the muscle that opens the eyes, eyelid correction surgery is absolutely necessary.

1] Change in black iris exposure

In eyes within the normal range, when the eyes are opened comfortably, about 2 mm of the black iris is covered.

After eyelid correction surgery, the hidden black iris is clearly exposed.

2] Distance between the eyebrows and the eyes

The visual field that had been covered due to drooping eyelids is secured, and as much of the black iris is exposed, the distance between the eyebrows and the eyes becomes closer.

3] Forehead wrinkles

If the forehead was raised to open the eyes and secure the field of vision before surgery, the forehead no longer needs to be used after surgery.

Therefore, the forehead muscles relax and the forehead naturally returns to its normal position.

Sutures are removed 7 days after surgery. After suture removal, the major swelling subsides, and the remaining minor swelling gradually improves over the course of 1 month.

The recovery speed of swelling or bruising varies from patient to patient. Cold compresses are effective in reducing heat and swelling, so doing them sufficiently until suture removal helps wound healing.
