When you suddenly injure your face
How many times in life do we end up getting injured and going to the hospital? Even for me, in my 40s as I write this, it seems to have been more than 10 times.
My chin and fingers were cut and stitched, my toe was broken and put in a cast, my shin was scraped from falling on stairs, my face was burned, and my fingers were punctured countless times. If I try to list everything one by one, it really never ends.
What I always feel when I get hurt is that accidents happen in an instant.
Accidents always happen suddenly.
It is best not to get injured if possible, but when you injure your face, it is truly difficult. When there is bleeding, you panic and go to the emergency room first, but the suturing is not done as quickly as you might expect. That is because it is the emergency room.
Something I also felt in the emergency room as a child is that there are many patients there who are far more urgent than I am.
Also, this does not mean the treatment in the emergency room is wrong, but in the case of the emergency room, urgent surgical procedures take priority, so it may be difficult to expect delicacy.
For patients who come to the hospital for suturing, naturally, they expect the delicate suturing of a plastic surgeon.
Ahn Sung-min Plastic Surgery is directly sutured by Chief Director Ahn Sung-min, a microsurgery specialist, to minimize scars.
If the face is slightly cut without a major accident such as a fracture, it is best to stop the bleeding simply and then see a plastic surgeon.
What is the golden time for suturing?
When the face is torn, you may be extremely shocked by the bleeding or even go into shock. In an emergency, stopping the bleeding is the top priority. The best first aid you can do is to apply pressure with thick gauze. However, if that is not possible, it is best to roll up a thick towel and press firmly on the wound.
If it is a wound that has opened without major trauma and the bleeding has been sufficiently controlled, suturing should be done within 24 hours.
Many patients are injured or torn at home more often than you might think. It is not always because they were cut by something sharp; there are many cases where people slip in the bathroom due to anemia or other reasons, hit the sink, bump into a door, or get torn while opening a cabinet. In such cases, do not panic too much and calmly apply firm pressure to stop the bleeding; that is the fastest first aid.
Ahn Sung-min Plastic Surgery’s goal is to minimize scars.
The thread used, the suturing method, and the treatment method are different.
Later, treatment such as ointments or scar laser therapy is needed to remove the scar from the suturing procedure.
