Men’s ptosis
Men’s eyes
Eye correction surgery creates a more comfortable impression and is a procedure that can satisfy both functional and aesthetic aspects.
In the case of male patients, they tend to pursue naturalness rather than the post-surgery glamour that female patients may expect.
They want eyes that look clear and refreshed, but they do not prefer a thick line.
Through sufficient consultation with the patient before surgery, we consider the condition of the eyes and what the patient wants, and find the lowest possible line.
Classification by degree of men’s ptosis
Depending on how much of the black pupil is exposed, ptosis can be classified as mild, moderate, or severe.

Normal range
When the eyes are opened naturally, about 80~90% is visible
Mild ptosis
When the eyes are opened using other muscles (such as the forehead muscles)
Moderate ptosis
When the eyes are opened naturally, about 50% of the pupil is visible
Severe ptosis
When the eyes are opened naturally, more than 50% of the pupil is covered

Incisional method: Before and after eye correction for a man in his 30s with ptosis, 1 month after
Hello.
This is Ahn Seong-min Plastic Surgery Clinic at Jamsil Saenae Station.
Eye correction surgery
Patients with ptosis tend to unconsciously raise their eyebrows and put force into the muscles used to open the eyes in an effort to open their eyes wider because their field of vision feels cramped.
However, once that discomfort is relieved to some extent after surgery, the eyebrows come down and the effort to use the eye-opening muscles becomes less consistent, which can reduce the effect of opening the eyes after surgery.
Therefore, in some cases, even if it seems that the eyes were enlarged quite a bit, patients may feel after recovery that there is little difference. This point must be taken into account in ptosis surgery, so an overcorrected feeling may be noticeable early after surgery.
In particular, male patients may feel stressed at first because the double eyelids look thick, but over time they gradually become more natural.
The surgical incision method varies depending on the condition of the eyes.
It differs according to the thickness of the skin, the amount of fat, the degree of ptosis, and so on.
Which surgical method is best should be determined through a detailed consultation.
Eye correction recovery process
The recovery process after eye correction surgery differs from person to person.
In general, after the stitches are removed, the major swelling begins to subside, and the swelling continues to go down over 1-3 months.
After about 6 months, it settles in naturally.

Immediately after surgery
After eye correction surgery, the black pupil is clearly exposed.
7 Days after surgery, Stitch out
After the stitches are removed, the muscles used to open the eyes are in a tense state, and there is a reddish appearance and swelling.
1 month after surgery
As the major swelling goes down, it settles in naturally.
3 Months after surgery
As the remaining swelling subsides, the tense eyelids naturally come down.
Differences between non-incisional and incisional eye correction
Eye correction surgery is a highly advanced procedure, and it is difficult to discuss it simply in terms of incisional versus non-incisional methods.
Naturally, patients would prefer non-incisional eye correction surgery without scars, but the drawback of the non-incisional method is that access to the muscles that open the eyes is based on the surgeon’s visual judgment.
As a result, it can lead to reoperation due to asymmetry or loosening of the correction.
Also, with the non-incisional method, it is difficult to remove unnecessary skin or muscle, which can make the eye correction feel insufficient.
Therefore, to fundamentally resolve ptosis, the incisional method is appropriate.
We identify the underlying cause and recommend the surgical method most suitable for the patient.
Surgery time and care
The eye correction surgery takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes for both eyes combined,
and is performed under local anesthesia.
For the first 1-2 days after surgery, it is best to rest and avoid overexertion.
For about 2 weeks after surgery,
you should avoid irritating the eyes, such as rubbing them hard.
From immediately after surgery, the strength used to open the eyes increases,
and forehead wrinkles also improve.
It may take at least one month for the major swelling, and at least 2-3 months for the remaining swelling,
to subside.
It is best to allow about 6 months for the surgical traces to disappear completely
and for the double eyelids to become natural.
