What is brow lift surgery?
A brow lift using skin excision through the eyebrows is a surgical method that can compensate for several issues that may arise with a standard upper blepharoplasty.
Differences from upper blepharoplasty
A standard upper blepharoplasty may create a new double-eyelid line or change the existing one, and it can also have the drawback of a long recovery period.
In contrast, brow lift surgery simply removes and tightens only the sagging skin, which has the advantage of restoring the area to the state it was in before the skin sagged.
Because the recovery period is shorter than with upper blepharoplasty, it is a surgical option for those who do not want a new double-eyelid line to form or who want a shorter recovery period.

Why upper blepharoplasty and brow lift surgery are performed together
With brow lift surgery, it is difficult to create a new double eyelid, so incision-based procedures are not easy. If the eyelids are thick, access to the fat is not possible, making removal or repositioning difficult.
Therefore, when the eyelid skin is thick or there is a lot of eyelid fat, this method may not be chosen, or it should be performed together with an incision-based method.
Also, when there is significant eyelid drooping, it has the advantage of allowing the eyelid skin to be distributed rather than excised from one area only.
Because sagging eyelid skin cannot be removed indefinitely, making an incision above the eyebrow also has a lifting effect.
Examples of when brow lift surgery is needed
-
When you do not want to create a double eyelid or alter an existing line
-
When you want a quick recovery
Disadvantages of brow upper lift surgery
-
As a side effect, eyebrow height may become uneven.
-
Some eyebrow hair may be lost, so eyebrow tattooing may be needed later.
Other precautions
Scarring may occur immediately after surgery.
There may be a difference in the height of the double eyelids on both sides.
One month after the scar, the scar may swell and become firm, and then around three months later the redness disappears. Depending on the individual, it may last longer than six months.
You may wash your face after stitch removal, but the wound is not completely healed yet, so you must be careful.
If you are constitutionally concerned about scars, ointment use or laser treatment may be necessary.
Be careful not to rub or touch the area, as doing so may cause the scar to open or stretch.

Surgery time and care
The total surgery time for both sides is about 1 hour,
and it is performed under local anesthesia.
For 1 to 2 days after surgery, it is best to avoid overexertion and rest.
For about 2 weeks after surgery,
avoid irritating the eyes, such as rubbing them hard.
There is usually little major swelling after surgery,
but applying a light cold compress until stitch removal helps reduce warmth.
