Why does the double eyelid line look pressed after double eyelid surgery as time passes?

As shown in the photos below, there are cases where a double fold forms in the front part of the double eyelid, or the middle part of the eyelid line looks pressed and makes the eyes seem stuffy.

In such cases, when the eyes are opened wide, the double eyelid line looks rounded, and when the strength is relaxed, the line looks pressed.

To avoid this pressed-looking feeling, some people intentionally open their eyes wide when taking photos or draw their eyeliner higher.

People may think the cause of the pressed-looking double eyelid is simply sagging eyelids and assume upper eyelid surgery is needed, but forehead sagging can also be a cause, so surgical options can be considered from multiple angles.

  Side effects of repeated upper eyelid surgery

If the eyelid is cut when there is not enough distance between the eyebrow and the eye, as in the patient below, a side effect can occur in which the eyebrow and eye appear closer together.

The distance between the eyebrow and the eye has a major impact on the overall impression, so the surgical method changes depending on the patient’s condition.

If the distance is not secured, it can give a stuffy feeling, as in the patient below.

The photo below shows a case where the eyebrow and eye became too close due to repeated upper eyelid surgery. If the distance is not secured, the result looks unnatural, and there is no remaining skin to work with, making further correction difficult.

  

Effects of a brow lift

If the distance has become too narrow due to a previous upper eyelid (double eyelid) surgery, a brow lift may be effective.

If you do not want to touch the existing double eyelid line and only want to improve the pressed feeling, a supra brow lift can provide sufficient improvement.

Brow lift surgery can be divided into sub-brow lift (incision below the eyebrow) and supra-brow lift (incision above the eyebrow) depending on the incision location, and the surgical method is determined by the distance between the eyelid and the eyebrow.

If there is not enough skin or if the eyes are sunken, they may look even more sunken, so it is not applicable to all patients. The surgical method changes depending on the condition of the patient’s eyes.

 

Scar recovery after brow lift surgery

The most concerning part of brow lift surgery is the eyebrow incision scar. Suture removal is performed one week after surgery, and since swelling and bruising are minimal, recovery tends to proceed quickly after suture removal. Incision scars vary from person to person, but recovery usually takes 2 to 3 months, and eyebrow tattooing or similar procedures may be needed later.
