What Is Eye Hollow Correction?

Eye hollow correction is a surgery that makes an incision to access the fat layer and move orbital fat to the sunken area.

When you are on a severe diet or feel tired, saying that your eyes look hollow or fatigued is closely related to eye hollowing.

If the eye hollows are severe, the eyelids may become deeply sunken, making you look older.

Just as babies look cute because their eyelids are plump and free of wrinkles, if the eyelids have many wrinkles and are sunken, they may appear the opposite.

How can we address this sunken eyelid problem? The eyes have several fat pads.

There are various ways to solve eye hollowness. For temporary effects, some choose to inject foreign substances or take fat from other parts of the body, such as the abdomen or thighs, and transplant it. However, these are not safe methods. Because the eyelid is a thin and sensitive area, transplanted fat often does not fully settle, and additional grafting or removal may be needed if the surface becomes uneven.

Correction of Eye Hollowness, Orbital Fat Transfer

The following patient is a woman in her mid-50s with pronounced eyelid hollowness. Due to the hollowing, the eyelids have sunken in, making the double eyelids look larger and creating a double fold. Upper blepharoplasty, ptosis correction, and orbital fat transfer were performed.

This surgical method improves eye hollowness by moving the patient's own orbital fat during surgery to add volume to the sunken eyelids.

Because it uses the patient's own orbital fat, it is easy to move and is a natural and stable surgical method by relocating and fixing it in the sunken area. Since it is movement within the same fat layer, there is no foreign-body sensation at all and no risk of inflammation.

If there is enough of the patient's own fat, this is the most ideal surgical method without fat displacement.

Eye hollowness may recur with aging, but it is not as severe as before.

It can be considered a natural and safe fat grafting method.

Fat Grafting and Fat Transfer Are Different.

Fat grafting and fat transfer are completely different surgical methods.

Fat grafting means suctioning and collecting fat from another part of the body, such as the abdomen or thighs, and transplanting it.

When fat is suctioned, blood vessels are severed, so the so-called dead-cell fat has a lower survival rate.

Some of it is transplanted, but some is absorbed as fat or may turn into scar tissue.

As the tissue changes, it may not spread evenly and can become firm or clump together. Because eyelid skin is thin, the surface may become uneven. At our clinic, to address the problems of fat grafting that can cause these side effects, we minimized side effects by moving orbital fat without severing blood vessels.
