The reason a double eyelid looks thick is #ptosis

In the case of male patients considering revision surgery, many complain that their existing double eyelid is too thick. It is also called #sausage eyes or #sausage double eyelids, and it is not preferred by men because it gives a greasy impression and a look that does not suit masculinity.

This can be congenital, but as in the patient below, it most often occurs when a double eyelid line is created without ptosis correction when ptosis is present.

So what causes a double eyelid to become thick?

Of course, the biggest reason is that the double eyelid was made too high. However, it is not just that the double eyelid is thick; ptosis often accompanies it as well. Surgery to lower the double eyelid can make a high line smaller, but ptosis remains, so the forehead is used to open the eyes, and the double eyelid stretches by the amount the forehead is lifted, becoming high again.

Ptosis refers to a state in which the muscles used to open the eyes are weak, so the forehead is lifted to open the eyes.

The surgery needed in this case is ptosis correction. By pulling and fixing the muscles that open the eyes so that the eyes can open properly, ptosis can be improved.

Ptosis correction is a procedure that corrects ptosis so that the condition does not appear when you open your eyes comfortably without using your forehead or straining your eyes. Only when ptosis correction is performed while lowering the double eyelid can the eyes open well and the double eyelid no longer become thick.

The goal is to make the double eyelid as low as possible, not to remove it completely.

Lowering a double eyelid means lowering the height of the double eyelid as much as possible so that the line is not exposed like an inner double eyelid when the eyes are open. It is also called #doubleeyelidremoval #doubleeyelidlowering #doubleeyelidelimination.

As shown in the photo below, when ptosis correction is performed and the double eyelid line is lowered, the black pupil is clearly exposed and the double eyelid no longer becomes thick.

Among the various areas of ptosis surgery, correcting a high double eyelid is quite difficult. If the existing double eyelid line is too high or deeply set, a double line may form, or the existing line may look like a scar. Also, there may be insufficient skin, so whether surgery is possible should always be discussed with an experienced board-certified plastic surgeon. The more repeated the revision surgery, the more surgical scar tissue accumulates and the more severe the adhesion to the existing line becomes, making the surgery considerably more difficult and recovery slower.
