Many people who visit us with high double eyelids, especially male patients, often say they are concerned that

“my eyes look too intense,”

“it looks very obvious that I had surgery,”

or “I’ve heard that I look feminine.”

An excessively high double eyelid line can occur when the crease was positioned improperly in a previous surgery, when fixation was too strong, or when eyelid tissue tension formed abnormally due to postoperative scarring.

In such cases, rather than making the eyes look clearer, it can instead give an artificial and awkward impression, as in the patient case below.

What Is High Fold Correction?

People often refer to this as “lowering double eyelids” or “removing double eyelids,” but in reality, it is closer to a corrective surgery that lowers the existing double eyelid line within the anatomically possible range and reorganizes it into a more natural structure closer to an inner fold.

In particular, for the facial structure of East Asian men, eyes with no visible crease or with a low, thin double eyelid often suit the overall impression better than high, deep double eyelids and can make the eyes look more open and longer.

Recently, with the influence of K-pop idols, natural-looking eyes with no visible crease or a low double eyelid have become a trend, and instead of making double eyelids larger,

more patients are visiting to refine overly strong lines.

The Relationship Between High Double Eyelids and Ptosis

The problem of high double eyelids is often not limited to the line position alone.

Clinically, we often see cases where a high fold forms because double eyelid surgery was performed while ptosis had not been sufficiently corrected.

In such cases, the forehead muscles are used unconsciously to open the eyes, and as a result, the double eyelids can look thicker and higher than they actually are.

Over time, the line can become deeper and the eye appearance can become even more unnatural, creating a vicious cycle.

Why Eye Opening Correction Matters

The most important part of high fold correction is not simply adjusting the line, but correcting the eye opening.

Only when the eyes can open comfortably without relying on the forehead muscles can the double eyelids avoid becoming thick again over time.

Eye opening correction surgery is designed so that the crease forms and remains naturally throughout the entire process of opening and closing the eyes, and it aims for a stable eyelid structure that is not excessive when the eyes are open and does not show artificial traces when the eyes are closed.

Changes After Surgery

After surgery, the eyes open much more comfortably, and you can open them naturally without straining the forehead.

The impression becomes clearer but not excessive, and the tired-looking image improves, creating a more stable and trustworthy appearance.

If you compare the amount of visible black iris before and after surgery, you can clearly feel the difference.

Recovery Process

Swelling and bruising may appear immediately after surgery, but this is part of the normal recovery process.

Sutures are removed on day 7 after surgery. After suture removal, the foreign-body sensation caused by the stitches disappears, and the major swelling begins to subside.

Usually, the major swelling gradually goes down within 1 to 2 weeks after surgery, and daily life becomes possible.
