Gum PDRN injections work? Two things a specialist explains directly
Hello.
Are you looking into the effects of gum PDRN injections?
I’m Taehoon Oh, the chief director of D-Day Dental Clinic.

A few days ago, one patient said something like this.
Director,
my gums keep swelling
and bleeding...
I’m really afraid of surgery,
so is there another option?
There are really many people
who have these concerns.
You have gum problems, but major surgery feels too burdensome,
and at the same time, you can’t just leave it alone.

These days, we get a lot of questions like,
“My gums keep bleeding,”
“My gums are swollen and painful—what should I do?”
Especially when scaling alone doesn’t solve the problem,
most people feel reluctant about surgical treatment.
But there is one treatment method
that has recently been getting attention.
That is PDRN injections.
Because it is a way to help gum regeneration without surgery,
many people are interested in it.

Gum PDRN injections,
do they really work for the gums?
PDRN may be an unfamiliar name.
In fact, it is better known in dermatology as a
“salmon injection.”
It is a regenerative treatment made from DNA components
extracted from salmon reproductive cells.
So how does it help the gums?
When PDRN is injected into the gums, it stimulates cellular
adenosine receptors and produces an anti-inflammatory effect.

In simple terms, it reduces inflammation in the gums.
At the same time, it promotes capillary formation,
helping nutrient supply flow more smoothly,
and helps tissue regeneration by supporting the secretion
of various growth factors.
Based on my own treatment experience,
the most noticeable effect is the reduction of inflammation.
I often see patients whose gums were red and swollen
change to a much healthier pink color after several sessions.

It also significantly reduces gum bleeding,
and you may feel that the gums overall become firmer.
That said, one thing I want to emphasize is that
PDRN injections alone do not solve every gum problem.
In cases such as severely damaged gum bone
or deep periodontal pockets,
surgical treatment may still be necessary.
Even so, the reason PDRN injections are meaningful is that
they play a strong supportive role in existing treatment.
When used together with scaling or periodontal treatment,
recovery is much faster,
and the treatment effect lasts longer.

The actual treatment process and
things to know
The actual procedure is simpler than you might think.
It involves directly injecting the problem area of the gums
with a thin needle.

Usually about 1 cc is used per area,
and the procedure itself takes around 10 minutes.
What about pain?
Honestly, since it is an injection, there is a slight sting.
But it is not as bad as you might expect,
so most patients say, “This is fine.”
Above all, the big advantage is that
you do not need an anesthetic injection.

How often is the treatment done?
Generally, it is performed 3 to 4 times
at 1- to 2-week intervals.
If the gum condition is severe,
you may receive it up to 6 to 8 times.
The cost varies by clinic, but you can expect
about 50,000 to 150,000 KRW per session.
But there is one important point here.
PDRN injections are a treatment that needs to be received regularly.

It is not something you do once and finish, like cavity treatment;
you need to keep receiving it consistently, like skin care,
if you want to maintain the effect.
Also, it is not a universal treatment
that can be applied in every case.
If the gum bone is severely damaged or
the teeth are severely loose,
surgical treatment should still come first.
PDRN injections should be seen as a supportive treatment,
and as a treatment that you receive for preventive purposes.
You do not need to worry much about side effects.
Because it supplements a DNA component that already exists in the body,
serious side effects are very rare.
Sometimes the injection site may temporarily bruise or swell,
but it naturally subsides within a few days.
To summarize what I explained today:
PDRN injections are clearly a treatment that helps reduce
gum inflammation and support regeneration.
But please remember that it is not a universal treatment
that solves every gum problem.
Above all, what matters most is establishing an appropriate treatment plan
that matches your own gum condition.
Whether surgery is necessary or whether conservative treatment
such as PDRN injections is enough
can only be determined through an accurate diagnosis.
Do not delay your gum health any longer,
and please consult a specialist.
