Epicanthoplasty is a general term for all procedures that address the inner corner of the eye.

It is an eye plastic surgery procedure that removes the epicanthal fold covering the inner part of the eye, making the eyes look larger and more open.

Just like pulling back a curtain to widen the view, it has the effect of increasing the horizontal length of the eyes.

The ideal ratio between the eyes is 1:1:1,

but as faces have become smaller recently, the distance between the eyes has been trending closer.

Epicanthoplasty relaxes the epicanthal fold, making more of the eyes visible,

and along with the effect of making the eyes look longer, it widens the inner corners of the eyes and creates a softer impression.

A mismatch between eye length and the distance between the eyes can make facial proportions look awkward and may make the face seem less attractive.

There are also cases where epicanthoplasty cannot be performed because the eyes are too close together.

Simply having short eye length is not a reason to do epicanthoplasty unconditionally, which is not advisable.

There are many people whose epicanthal fold looks beautiful as it is, so in some cases epicanthoplasty is not recommended.

Whether or not to proceed with surgery is decided by hearing the patient’s needs and adjusting accordingly,

and there are many possible design directions, including changing or adjusting the surgical method.

Above all, epicanthoplasty can produce dramatic results depending on an individual’s facial features, but it is very risky for patients to judge the effect on their own,

so it is best to decide only after consulting with a specialist.

When it comes to eye surgery, scarring is also a major concern, right?

However, in most cases, scarring from epicanthoplasty is not a problem.

When talking face to face with someone, if the epicanthoplasty scar is not noticeable, that can be considered a successful surgery,

and that is my standard when performing surgery.

In general cases, the scar is barely visible,

but depending on bone structure and skin characteristics, there are occasionally patients for whom the scar may stand out.

In such cases, there are no side effects other than the scar, but since the patient’s preferences must be considered in terms of design,

if you provide specific design requirements, the surgery will be performed accordingly,

and if not, a customized epicanthoplasty design will be provided based on the patient’s style and characteristics.

The area where tears collect is called the lacrimal lake,

and some people dislike or find it odd when a lot of the reddish flesh in front of the eye is visible.

In Westerners, this is also a natural phenomenon,

and seeing the red area is not strange or problematic. Rather, overall harmony is what matters.

During epicanthoplasty, the overall facial proportions are considered when designing the procedure and determining the size of the gap.

Rather than simply following trends, it is important to find a design that suits your own face best.
