In this post,
I want to talk about
the relationship between cosmetic surgery and mental health.
We often think about
cosmetic surgery to improve appearance,
but sometimes there are also people who see cosmetic surgery as a way
to address emotional difficulties.
There are cases where people consider cosmetic surgery
not simply to become more beautiful,
but because they are struggling emotionally.
Some people visit a plastic surgery clinic thinking,
“I’m having a hard time because of my husband’s affair. Is it because I’m getting older? I need to look younger.”
I believe that trying to solve
emotional problems through appearance improvement
cannot be a fundamental solution.
When you are going through something emotionally difficult,
I do not recommend trying to solve that hardship with cosmetic surgery.
Cosmetic surgery is an operation that changes the shape of the human body;
it is not a surgery that treats the mind.
When your mind is hurting,
rather than cosmetic surgery,
I recommend trying other methods first.
First of all,
if there is something making you emotionally distressed,
you need to resolve that first.
If you are depressed, struggling,
or have gone through frustration and failure,
I think it is right to get help from a psychiatrist.
Many people feel burdened
about visiting a psychiatrist,
but
in situations like this,
receiving help from a psychiatrist
is nothing to hesitate over.
It should be a natural choice
for your mental health.
In addition to help from experts,
if you want to secure your mental well-being,
there are also ways such as taking a 30-minute morning walk
or calming your mind with teachings from various religions.
Once restoring your mind comes first,
and on that basis,
refreshing your appearance
has meaning.
Improving features that have become disappointing with age,
or resolving a complex,
so that you can live more confidently and proudly, does have meaning.
When you are in a healthy state and rationally think that
it has meaning in your life,
you can consider cosmetic surgery.
What I mean is that when you are mentally healthy,
feeling more confident through appearance improvement
can bring positive effects.
If you have a congenital ptosis
and one eye appears half-closed,
leaving you with a complex since childhood,
or if you have a noticeably large mole,
like a congenital giant nevus,
and so on,
in cases where cosmetic surgery resolves
appearance-related complexes caused by congenital features,
satisfaction tends to be high.
Cosmetic surgery that resolves appearance-related complexes
can help improve quality of life.
At times like these,
when the surgery result is good
and we see the patient smiling happily,
we feel good too.
Seeing a patient live happily
is one of the reasons we perform cosmetic surgery.
However, cosmetic surgery when your mind is hurting
is risky from the very approach itself,
and
I see cosmetic surgery for someone who is emotionally struggling
as only a second-best option.
When your mind is hurting,
rather than cosmetic surgery, you should first look into the emotional problem
and make efforts to resolve it through expert help
or your own efforts,
and that should come first,
and
it would be good to clearly understand that
cosmetic surgery to improve appearance
in a healthy mental state
can have a positive impact.
I hope you will take care of your mental health first.
I always wish you true happiness and beauty.
