Many people are interested in nose surgery,

but when it comes down to it, it can be hard to clearly tell

what kind of nose is considered a “sophisticated nose.”

“Sophisticated” is such an abstract word.

“High-end” means

having a high grade, but I’ve thought a lot about what it means for a face to have a high grade.

Rather than clothes with flashy logos,

I think clothes with restrained designs look more sophisticated.

I think a person’s appearance is similar.

Rather than something excessively flashy,

a nose that feels comfortable overall and has a kind of appeal

that makes you want to keep looking at it is, to me, sophisticated.

First of all, I think a nose that obviously looks operated on

can feel burdensome and unnatural.

Of course, in photos or videos,

a glamorous nose may stand out well,

but when meeting face to face,

I believe naturalness should be the foundation.

For that natural look,

the starting point of the nose is really important in nose surgery.

If you ignore the protruding area of the brow and start too high,

the nose can look unnatural.

For women,

a good starting point for the nose is around the height of the double eyelid line from the eyelashes.

For men,

it can be slightly higher than for women.

That is because men’s brow bones tend to be more prominent,

and it is fine if the nose is a little longer.

The bridge of the nose should also follow the overall curvature of the face.

If you ignore the face’s natural curves

and make only the bridge of the nose too high,

the nose may stand out too much

or even highlight your own weak points.

The tip of the nose also plays

an extremely important role in sophistication.

In particular, the nasolabial angle,

that is, the angle formed by the upper lip and the columella, is important.

For men’s noses,

the nasolabial angle is maintained at about 90 degrees.

For women’s noses,

the nasolabial angle is about 95 degrees,

forming a slightly larger angle than in men.

But it’s not just the angle that matters.

What matters is that the columella itself,

which forms this angle,

has enough curve.

Rather than extending in a purely straight line,

The nose can be broadly categorized into parts like the columella, lips, and tip,

but in reality there are very detailed shapes within it.

I try to make those detailed shapes

as close as possible to forms found in nature

when performing surgery.

I believe that creates the most natural

and sophisticated result.

On the other hand, the kind of nose I would say is not sophisticated

is ultimately an artificial-looking nose.

It lacks the rounded curve of the columella I mentioned above,

is almost purely straight,

or has angles that are too sharp,

so it feels as if it were measured with a protractor.

These kinds of noses are hard to find in nature,

and people may unconsciously feel,

“it looks artificial.”

When you walk around, you can often see noses that somehow feel awkward.

Maybe that is because the person’s own standard of beauty

is shaped that way,

or perhaps they simply prefer noses like that

as a matter of taste.

Or maybe they focus too much on “height” alone,

and end up missing the natural curves and balance.

Just as someone may look tall because of good proportions,

the proportions of the entire face are important for the nose too.

Rather than simply measuring with a ruler

and saying it is a few centimeters taller,

it is important to consider the proportions with the whole face

so it looks taller, more elegant,

and more dimensional.

To raise the standard of that kind of natural beauty,

rather than doing something intentionally,

I observe people carefully even while walking down the street.

If someone looks pretty,

if their overall mood matches well,

I keep thinking,

“Why does it look that way?”

“How can I create that kind of feeling?”

Even during time when I am not working,

I keep thinking about these things and studying them.

“Sophistication” is really a difficult

and subjective word.

But I’m glad I could talk about
