Is a neck lift essential?!

When coming in for a facelift consultation,

there are also cases where a neck lift is recommended at the same time.

You may think,

"I don't seem to have any problems, so why do I need a neck lift?"

The scope of surgery included in a neck lift

covers everything from the jaw down to the sagging tissue below,

so in order to achieve the greatest possible effect with a single surgery,

a facelift and a neck lift can be seen as inseparable.

A neck lift is a procedure that improves sagging in the double-chin area and the space below it.

In simple terms, it is a surgery that clearly defines the boundary between the area under the chin and the neck.

A standalone neck lift is not common,

and it is often performed together when doing a full facelift.

As we age,

the face sags from top to bottom,

and tissue collects toward the jaw.

As the jawline sags,

the jowls also appear deeper,

and as the boundary between the jaw, neck, and the sides of the face disappears,

they may appear as one straight line.

If only the facial area is corrected at this point and the area under the chin is left as is,

the balance will be off.

Because improving the nasolabial folds and marionette lines and also improving the jowls and sagging double chin creates a much younger and more natural face,

a neck lift is often performed together when doing a facelift.

For those with deep horizontal neck lines,

because they are a kind of crease like palm lines,

they do not disappear completely even after surgery.

In fact, if the horizontal neck lines are your main concern,

you may be more satisfied with repeated filler treatments rather than surgery.

Comparing cases where a neck lift was performed together with a facelift and cases where it was not,

However, when a neck lift is performed as well,

In particular, the area under the chin is often not easily noticed in daily life.

Through a neck lift, if the salivary glands or fat layer under the chin are delicately adjusted,

a much sharper and more elastic jawline can be created.

Some people may worry whether removing the salivary glands could cause side effects such as not producing saliva.

There is absolutely no need to worry!

This does not mean removing all of the salivary glands,

but rather partially excising only the protruding portion of the salivary gland that bulges under the chin.

The purpose of this procedure is to reduce the volume of the salivary glands,

and it does not cause functional problems such as dryness of saliva in the mouth.

You can think of it as being similar in principle to a Botox treatment.

When a neck lift is added,

the incision line becomes longer, so some people also worry about scarring.

When only a facelift is performed, incisions are made in front of and behind the ears.

Even if a neck lift is added, this incision line is simply extended a little further along the hairline.

Because the scar is barely visible from the front,

the burden of extending the incision is not great, while the results are much better.

That is why I recommend combining it with a neck lift in more than 90% of cases.

If you are concerned about the cost and are thinking of doing the facelift first and the neck lift separately later,

I would say it is much better to do both at once.

If the neck lift is done separately,

there may be situations where part of the facelift has to be touched again.

Because the platysma and SMAS layers are connected as one continuous layer,

they create synergy only when manipulated at the same time,

so having the surgeries done separately is not a good approach.

It is best to think of a facelift and a neck lift as one set.
