The day after plastic surgery: 'washing your hair'

Can you really do it?

After plastic surgery,

one of the things people often wonder about

is whether they can wash their hair.

I also can’t stand not washing my hair

even for a single day,

but after surgery,

I start worrying that

something might happen to the surgical area.

For most plastic surgeries,

the surgical site and washing your hair

are not closely related,

so it is completely fine to wash your hair

starting the day after surgery.

For example,

if you had surgery on another part of the face,

such as nose surgery or eye surgery,

washing your hair does not directly affect

the surgical area,

so you can wash it without worry.

However,

this does not apply to all surgeries.

In cases where the surgical area is close to the head,

such as forehead lift surgery

or facelift surgery,

it may be difficult to wash your hair by yourself.

This is because the incision site may be inside the scalp

or hidden within the hair,

or the surgical area may be wide,

which can limit movement.

In such cases,

you should be careful,

because forcing yourself to wash it alone may instead

irritate the surgical area

or create a risk of infection.

If it is not closely related to the surgical area,

you can wash your hair the next day

without any problem.

However, in the case of forehead lift surgery

or facelift surgery,

the surgical area is close to the head,

so it may be difficult to wash your hair by yourself,

and in such cases,

you can get help at the hospital.

We also ask patients to visit the next day after surgery for treatment,

and at that time, we sometimes provide a service

called a 'medical shampoo' in the shampoo room.

Because it provides safe shampooing

along with disinfection of the incision site,

patients can wash their hair with much greater peace of mind

and comfort.

Rather than struggling on your own,

getting help from the hospital

is a much wiser choice.
