Even after multiple thread-lifting procedures

'Can a facelift still be performed successfully?'

Many of you may have considered this at least once,

or may have already experienced it.

One concern I often hear is:

"If I undergo thread lifting,

could it cause problems later

when I have facelift surgery?"

This is one of the questions I am asked most frequently.

To give you the conclusion first,

whether thread lifting causes difficulties during facelift surgery

depends on 'where' and 'how' the procedure was performed.

Today, based on my own experiences

in the operating room,

I would like to discuss the importance of thread-lifting procedures

and how to make a wise choice.

Some people are disappointed

when they do not see results after a single thread-lifting procedure,

while many others are highly satisfied

and undergo the procedure repeatedly.

In fact, quite a few people visit our clinic

after having undergone thread lifting several times

in preparation for facelift surgery.

In such cases, the statement that

"having thread lifting many times

makes surgery more difficult"

is half true

and half untrue.

For people who have undergone thread lifting in Korea

using dissolvable threads

through standard procedures,

there is usually no major difficulty

during facelift surgery.

The problem arises when unidentified threads

were used overseas,

or when the procedure was performed at a substandard facility

using materials associated with many complications.

In such cases,

threads may remain around important structures during surgery,

creating a difficult situation

in which it is hard either to remove them

or to leave them in place.

One of the advantages of thread lifting

is that it promotes collagen formation

and improves skin elasticity.

However,

if this collagen tissue forms in the wrong location

or as a result of an unsuitable material,

it may interfere with facelift surgery.

Therefore, it is very important

to have the procedure performed

at a safe, precise, and highly experienced clinic.

If you repeatedly undergo procedures

at a clinic that uses unverified threads

simply because it is inexpensive,

recovery after surgery may be slower,

and the risk of complications

such as nerve damage may increase.

Many people say,

"I don't know which clinic is good."

Since every clinic claims to be good at what it does,

it is true that making a choice is not easy.

I, too, have a strong interest in both thread lifting

and facelift surgery,

and I have met many people

who, after experiencing the limitations of thread lifting,

wanted to undergo facelift surgery.

As a board-certified plastic surgeon,

I understand very well how important it is

to accurately identify the location and depth of the threads

during a thread-lifting procedure,

based on anatomical knowledge and surgical experience.

While personally supervising thread-lifting procedures

and confirming thread locations

through anatomical dissection,

I have seen many threads

that had been inserted incorrectly,

and I was also able to clearly identify

the locations of properly placed threads.

Thanks to these experiences,

when performing facelift surgery,

it is not difficult to distinguish

whether previously inserted threads

are in the proper location,

or in an incorrect location

where there is a risk of nerve damage.

Therefore, I generally do not encounter major difficulty

when removing threads

or when coming across them during surgery.

In recent years, lifting procedures using energy-based devices

have also become more common,

alongside thread lifting.

As a result, the surgical techniques used by doctors

performing facelift surgery have also evolved.

In the past, traditional

SMAS lifting could interfere with surgery

when the SMAS layer had become thin

or there was a large amount of scar tissue.

There were limitations:

the SMAS layer could tear,

or it might not have enough strength to be lifted.

However, the Deep Plane approach to facelift surgery,

which is widely performed today,

involves lifting the entire tissue layer,

including the SMAS layer, as a whole.

This method significantly reduces the likelihood

of the tissue tearing because it has become thin,

or of there being insufficient lifting strength.

As I have also performed surgery using the Deep Plane approach,

I have found that even in people

who have undergone Ultherapy or thread lifting

multiple times,

there have been almost no cases

where I experienced difficulty lifting the tissue

or encountered problems during surgery.

In conclusion,

if you are considering thread lifting

or have already undergone it,

'where' and 'how'

the procedure was performed are very important.

If you undergo the procedure

with an experienced specialist

at a verified medical institution,

you can expect good results without major concern,

even if you later consider facelift surgery.
