Many people who visit a plastic surgery clinic
dream of glamorous, beautiful eyes like those of celebrities.
However, when they actually receive a consultation,
some are told, “The design you want may be difficult,”
or end up disappointed when the result after surgery
differs from what they expected.
Why does this happen?
It is because they do not properly understand
the unique characteristics of their own eyes—
in other words, their “eye MBTI.”
To reduce this gap between expectations and reality
and help patients find a design that suits them,
we created a system for classifying “eye MBTI.” 😀
Just as everyone has a different personality,
everyone’s eyes have their own distinct characteristics.
Understanding your eye type accurately
is the first step toward successful eyelid surgery.
Through “eye MBTI,”
let’s find out what type of eyes you have
and which design would suit you best.
![[에톤TV] What Is My Eye Type According to Eye MBTI? image 2](https://pub-9f2bb3498faf4d1d8714b41df24753e3.r2.dev/content/clinics/archive/6sqnwoxhnd/naver_blog/etonneps/assets/by_hash/e6212f4e8da88243c0fbbfc69065b47244056517ba35a1367bc16a032d1d71cb.jpg)
Eye MBTI is broadly divided
according to four criteria.
1️⃣
I (Sunken Eyes) vs. E (Protruding Eyes)
: The degree to which the eyelid tissue covers the eyes
The first criterion
classifies eyes as “sunken eyes (I)” or “protruding eyes (E)”
according to how recessed or prominent they are.
Sunken eyes are recessed,
so the double-eyelid crease tends to be easily covered,
while protruding eyes are more prominent,
so the double-eyelid crease tends to remain visible
even when designed with a low crease.
![[에톤TV] What Is My Eye Type According to Eye MBTI? image 3](https://pub-9f2bb3498faf4d1d8714b41df24753e3.r2.dev/content/clinics/archive/6sqnwoxhnd/naver_blog/etonneps/assets/by_hash/319c7086a8f8795bae0cf36c3ce521f6ed4e49fdd02943560f0e879dc12008f1.jpg)
✅ Self-check method
Take a side-profile selfie or ask someone else to take a photo
while your eyes are open comfortably.
If the curvature of the eyeball is clearly visible,
you likely have protruding eyes.
If the curvature is difficult to see
and the tissue covers the eye vertically,
you are likely closer to having sunken eyes.
![[에톤TV] What Is My Eye Type According to Eye MBTI? image 4](https://pub-9f2bb3498faf4d1d8714b41df24753e3.r2.dev/content/clinics/archive/6sqnwoxhnd/naver_blog/etonneps/assets/by_hash/ee15d04dde38d81e83aed64026131dc2299176c40d9f12e06e2bcd7d5a726774.jpg)
Even if the crease is set high in sunken eyes,
the double eyelid may still appear small,
so excessive ambition can result in a sausage-like crease.
Protruding eyes, on the other hand, tend to produce
a more clearly defined crease.
If they are designed like sunken eyes,
the double eyelid may look too large
or the eyes may appear even more prominent,
so caution is needed.

2️⃣
S (Strong Epicanthic Fold) vs. N (Weak Epicanthic Fold)
: The starting point of the double-eyelid crease
The second criterion
classifies eyes according to the strength of the epicanthic fold
as “strong epicanthic fold (S)” or “weak epicanthic fold (N).”
The epicanthic fold is a very important factor
in determining the starting point of the double-eyelid crease—
that is, whether it will be an inner crease or an outer crease.
![[에톤TV] What Is My Eye Type According to Eye MBTI? image 6](https://pub-9f2bb3498faf4d1d8714b41df24753e3.r2.dev/content/clinics/archive/6sqnwoxhnd/naver_blog/etonneps/assets/by_hash/d286d555109c202ec03c15c90b2569a3bfd4610a47cb0feb717972400d3639c6.jpg)
✅ Self-check method
Check your tear ducts in front of a mirror.
When you pull back the epicanthic fold,
you should be able to see the pink tear duct.
Pull it back until the tear duct is fully exposed,
then release it slightly.
If more than 50% of the tear duct is covered,
you can be considered to have a strong epicanthic fold (S).
If less than 50% is covered and much of the tear duct remains visible,
you can be considered to have a weak epicanthic fold (N).
![[에톤TV] What Is My Eye Type According to Eye MBTI? image 7](https://pub-9f2bb3498faf4d1d8714b41df24753e3.r2.dev/content/clinics/archive/6sqnwoxhnd/naver_blog/etonneps/assets/by_hash/b9a4ddd625b581635ff47a7753355644cb68f86ebbf7411a7c8a44124e7d71b8.jpg)
A strong epicanthic fold makes it difficult to create an outer crease,
while a weak fold is advantageous for creating a semi-outer or outer crease.
Because weak epicanthic folds are relatively uncommon among Koreans,
semi-outer or outer creases
tend to appear more glamorous.
![[에톤TV] What Is My Eye Type According to Eye MBTI? image 8](https://pub-9f2bb3498faf4d1d8714b41df24753e3.r2.dev/content/clinics/archive/6sqnwoxhnd/naver_blog/etonneps/assets/by_hash/9b31fc8ce7cb5eb854ea8ec83ed89d674c8b68d5de6586b5f0b0f7e0fa052357.jpg)
3️⃣
T (Thick Eyelids) vs. F (Thin Eyelids)
: The durability of the double-eyelid crease
The third criterion
classifies eyes according to eyelid thickness
as “thick eyelids (T)” or “thin eyelids (F).”
The thinner the eyelid tissue,
the more easily a double eyelid tends to form and remain in place.
![[에톤TV] What Is My Eye Type According to Eye MBTI? image 9](https://pub-9f2bb3498faf4d1d8714b41df24753e3.r2.dev/content/clinics/archive/6sqnwoxhnd/naver_blog/etonneps/assets/by_hash/a5246db85643bf31ebdaac26c0c6a4807abb0e74d5d34988cded67a6ed5cf2f7.jpg)
✅ Self-check method
Create your desired double-eyelid crease
using a thin pencil or toothpick,
then close and open your eyes once.
If the crease remains clearly visible,
your eyelids are relatively thin (F).
If the crease becomes almost indistinct,
your eyelids are relatively thick (T).
When the eyelids are thick,
it is difficult to create a glamorous crease
using the non-incisional method,
but surgery may still be possible with a very low crease.
However, this may result in an appearance without a visible crease,
so an incisional method or another approach may need to be considered.
![[에톤TV] What Is My Eye Type According to Eye MBTI? image 10](https://pub-9f2bb3498faf4d1d8714b41df24753e3.r2.dev/content/clinics/archive/6sqnwoxhnd/naver_blog/etonneps/assets/by_hash/ed2eff2c6e38244eb5c0042c7663e69f9be07203a57db316a4ae887a348ffa64.jpg)
4️⃣
J (Natural Design) vs. P (Glamorous Design)
: Preferred style
The final criterion
classifies eyes according to preferred design style
as “natural design (J)” or “glamorous design (P).”
“J” refers to those who prefer
a natural appearance that does not look noticeably surgical,
while “P” refers to those who want
distinctive and glamorous eyes.
✅ Self-check method
If you want a natural change
that does not look noticeably surgical
and looks like your original eyes, you are closer to J.
If you want distinctive, open-looking eyes,
even if they look noticeably surgical,
such as a semi-outer or outer crease,
you are closer to P.
Those who prefer a natural design
are generally satisfied with the crease recommended in the consultation room.
However, for those who want a glamorous design,
an Asian eye shape can make it difficult to achieve the desired result
with the non-incisional method alone.
Several options may need to be considered together,
such as inner-corner surgery, the incisional method,
or a forehead lift.
![[에톤TV] What Is My Eye Type According to Eye MBTI? image 11](https://pub-9f2bb3498faf4d1d8714b41df24753e3.r2.dev/content/clinics/archive/6sqnwoxhnd/naver_blog/etonneps/assets/by_hash/bc55cc494c10e803c6e10990e5fd18fcc07b96fe434a942c46ecacf738bb5842.jpg)
The most common eye MBTI type among Koreans
is the “IST_” type.
In other words, many people have sunken eyes,
a strong epicanthic fold,
and thick eyelid skin.
If a J is added because you prefer a natural design,
making you an “ISTJ,”
a very low crease is generally appropriate.
However, if you want a glamorous design,
like an “ISTP,”
the situation is different.
In such cases, inner-corner surgery is generally performed first.
To raise the crease, an incisional method may be used,
or a forehead lift may be performed together
to consider ways of raising the crease.
![[에톤TV] What Is My Eye Type According to Eye MBTI? image 12](https://pub-9f2bb3498faf4d1d8714b41df24753e3.r2.dev/content/clinics/archive/6sqnwoxhnd/naver_blog/etonneps/assets/by_hash/29d60c86ded4892795beaa5e68fe7c27e8329fa0201a9593c0f7068983798af5.jpg)
Of course, there are many other factors to consider,
such as eyelid-opening strength and asymmetry between the two sides.
Therefore, it is important to receive an accurate consultation
from a board-certified plastic surgeon.
However, if you learn in advance what characteristics your eyes have
before surgery,
you may be able to achieve a much more satisfying result.

What type of eye MBTI
do you have?
On the journey to finding the beauty that suits you,
the most important thing is not to blindly imitate
the eyes of a particular celebrity.
Please remember that it is essential
to understand what kind of eyes you have
and find the design that suits you best.
Thank you. 😀
