We’ll think together about what choice is right for you
After losing a tooth, the inconvenience goes beyond simply having trouble chewing food. You may lose confidence when speaking, and even eating face-to-face with others can start to feel burdensome.
Especially if you have lost several teeth, it can feel overwhelming to know how to restore them, and you may feel even more confused by the many stories you hear from people around you. Today, I’d like to explain in detail the characteristics, advantages, and disadvantages of each implant type. I hope this article helps you make your decision.

The vague fear you feel at a crossroads of choice

For those who have lost several teeth, if they have used dentures for a long time, they often feel anxious about the dentures becoming loose every time they chew.
When eating with family, they are always careful, worrying that the dentures might come out. Many people consider implant treatment, but end up feeling more confused because there is too much information they found online. They wonder whether they need to place regular implants one by one, or whether there is also a way to combine implants with dentures, and what the difference is.
The cost is also a burden, and it is natural to worry about whether you can endure a long treatment period at an older age.
Implant types: why is it important to know them?
Understanding implant types is the first step toward choosing a treatment that fits your oral condition, lifestyle, and financial situation.
Many people think of implants simply as placing one tooth, but in reality there are various methods depending on the number of missing teeth, the condition of the jawbone, and overall health. Just as single-family homes, apartments, and row houses each have different characteristics and advantages when building a house, it is important to choose the implant type that suits your situation.
This is because the wrong choice can lead to longer treatment periods, unnecessary additional costs, and unsatisfactory results.

Regular implants: the closest restoration to natural teeth
The most basic option is the regular implant. This is a method in which one implant is placed for each missing tooth, with a titanium fixture that serves as the root of a natural tooth inserted into the jawbone, and an artificial tooth placed on top.
It is suitable when one or two teeth are missing, and its advantage is that it can restore chewing force almost identical to that of natural teeth. However, if several teeth are missing, an implant must be placed for each one, which takes a lot of cost and treatment time.
If there is insufficient jawbone, bone grafting may be necessary, and there is the difficulty of having to manage the recovery period individually.

Full-arch implants: efficient restoration of all teeth
Among implant types, full-arch implants are a helpful option for people who have lost many teeth. This method restores the entire upper or lower jaw with just 4 to 6 implants.
If regular implants are like planting one tree at a time, full-arch implants are similar to a structure that supports an entire bridge with just a few sturdy pillars. This method allows a temporary prosthesis to be attached on the same day, so you do not have to go without teeth, and treatment is generally completed within one month.
It can restore about 90 percent of the chewing force of natural teeth, and because it is fixed in the mouth and does not move, it also resolves the inconvenience of dentures. However, because it is a highly difficult procedure, it is important to choose medical staff with sufficient experience and skill.
The importance of implant types and care

Another implant type is implant-supported dentures.
Several implants are placed in the gums, and then dentures are attached to them in a removable way. This provides better retention than regular dentures, but it still has the inconvenience of needing to be taken in and out. The chewing force is about 60 to 80 percent of natural teeth, which is lower than that of full-arch implants. Whatever method you choose, proper care is important.
Implants, like natural teeth, should be brushed carefully every day and flossed, and regular checkups every six months are necessary to check the health of the gums around the implant. Hard or chewy foods should be eaten with caution, and smoking is best avoided because it can shorten the lifespan of an implant.

The process of finding the right method
In this situation, it is important to accurately understand your condition through consultation and then choose the method that is right for you. For those who feel burdened by visiting the clinic multiple times because of their age and want to return to daily life as quickly as possible, full-arch implants may be a suitable choice.
By using a 3D navigation system for precise planning, a temporary prosthesis can be attached on the day of the procedure so that you do not have to remain without teeth. When the final prosthesis is attached one month later, daily meals become more comfortable, and the gum line recreated with pink porcelain and the teeth made of zirconia create a natural appearance.

Take it one step at a time and find the path that suits you
The process of understanding and choosing implant types means more than simply restoring teeth. It is a process of regaining the daily life where you can enjoy food again, talk comfortably with others, and smile with confidence.
If you are considering treatment, do not be afraid. Please make your choice by comprehensively considering your oral condition, overall health, lifestyle, and financial situation. What matters most is having a thorough consultation with medical staff who have extensive clinical experience.
Through more than 20 years of clinical experience and meeting countless patients, what I have learned is that choices made based on the right information lead to the most satisfying results. I support your healthy smile.
