Double eyelid surgery is one of the cosmetic procedures usually performed to improve both aesthetic and functional aspects.
Simply making the eyes look bigger does not solve everything; it is important to consider both the muscles and function so that, in addition to cosmetic effects,
results are improved in many areas such as securing the field of vision and the ability to open the eyes. In most cases, the causes of limited field of vision and drooping eyelids
stem from ptosis. Today, I will write about ptosis surgery, which can affect not only appearance but also vision.

What is ptosis surgery?
Ptosis surgery is a procedure that corrects drooping eyelids to secure the field of vision and help improve appearance.
Ptosis can be congenital or acquired, and it often occurs as people age and the muscles weaken.
As a result, the eyes may look heavy and tired, or the eyelids may drop and block vision.
Reasons ptosis surgery is needed
- Securing the field of vision
The biggest reason is that drooping eyelids block the field of vision.
As the eyelids sag, it becomes difficult to fully open the eyes, which can cause visual discomfort.
- Improvement in appearance.
Because of ptosis, the eyes may look small and constricted.
Improving drooping eyelids can make the eyes look more defined and lively.
This is especially a natural phenomenon that appears with aging, and many people seek external changes through surgery.
- Restoring confidence
Ptosis can make people become more conscious of their appearance, which can reduce confidence.
The improved appearance after surgery helps many people regain confidence.
Actual patient case before and after ptosis surgery

Issues
- The eyelid droop is covering half of the pupil
- A stuffy, sleepy-looking impression caused by fat in the upper eyelid
- Discomfort when opening the eyes

Surgical plan
- Eye opening correction
Advancing the muscle that opens the eyes (levator muscle) and fixing it to the tarsal plate to improve ptosis
- Upper eyelid fat removal
Removing fat from the upper eyelid to improve the stuffy feeling
- Upper epicanthoplasty
Slightly opening the upper inner corner of the eye to soften a strong impression
- Incisional double eyelid surgery
Creating a double eyelid line after making a minimal incision in the eyelid and removing unnecessary tissue
This patient was having their first eye surgery at our clinic, and the ptosis was severe enough that more than half of the pupil was
covered. They usually felt discomfort when opening their eyes, so their eyes were easily fatigued and they had a stuffy impression.
We improved this by performing eye opening correction (ptosis), upper eyelid fat removal, upper epicanthoplasty, and incisional double eyelid surgery
at the same time to create clearer and more refreshed-looking eyes.

So today, I introduced ptosis surgery before and after. Ptosis surgery can be a very effective solution for people whose field of vision is
partially blocked due to drooping eyelids or whose appearance is affected. Through surgery, the eyes can look clearer and more refreshed,
and the field of vision can also be secured. It is a procedure that should be carefully performed by consulting with a medical professional to find and choose the appropriate method, and proper care and rest after surgery are important. Through this process, improved results can be achieved.
