How to Avoid Getting Ripped Off
'Choosing a Dental Clinic Is Like Choosing Your Looks
Designing Your Smile'

Why is it so expensive
just to place one implant?
Prices are different at every clinic,
and the explanations are all different,
so I really don't know what to trust.
Apgujeong Dental Clinic
This is a common concern for many people considering implants.
Especially in Gangnam, Seoul, and particularly in Apgujeong, where dental clinics are concentrated, there are so many options
that it actually becomes harder to decide.
So many people end up wondering:
How exactly should I choose an Apgujeong dental clinic
so I can avoid being fooled and get proper treatment?
You came to the right place.
At Smile D Dental Clinic, where I place more than 1,500 implants a year, I, Gu Ja-cheol,
will tell you how to absolutely avoid getting ripped off when getting an implant.
And I’ll explain the key points for receiving accurate and honest treatment.

Why do implant prices differ from one dental clinic to another?
Apgujeong Dental Clinic
An implant is not just a single piece
-
Fixture (the artificial root placed into the jawbone)
-
Abutment (the part that connects the fixture and the crown)
-
Crown (the visible artificial tooth)
It consists of a combination of these three parts.

Each of these parts can vary in price depending on the material used, the brand, and the manufacturing method,
which has a major effect on the total implant cost.

Once, while I was riding the subway, I saw an advertisement that said, "Implants for 290,000 won."
In reality, this often refers only to the price of the fixture.
In addition, additional parts such as the abutment and crown may use low-cost materials,
or the patient’s choices may be limited.
So when you actually visit an Apgujeong dental clinic, the final cost is often completely different from the advertisement.
Also,
-
The implant brand used (domestic/imported, prosthetic precision, etc.)
-
The dentist’s experience and skill level
-
The clinic’s equipment level, and whether pre- and post-operative care is included
-
Whether bone grafting or gum surgery is needed
and other factors can greatly change the overall cost.
Therefore, rather than judging solely by a low price,
it is important to consider the total cost, the quality of treatment, and the provider’s expertise together.
Three key points to check during your consultation
Implant Dental Clinic
This is something I always tell patients in the treatment room.
You’ll probably visit a few implant dental clinics,
but when you receive an implant consultation, you must personally check these three things.
That way, you won’t get ripped off.
1. Was a CT scan performed for an accurate diagnosis?
An X-ray provides only two-dimensional information,
so it is difficult to accurately assess the condition of the jawbone or the position of nerves.
Because implant surgery requires precision down to the millimeter,
a 3D analysis through CT must be done first to allow for a safe and successful surgical plan.
2. Were you given a specific explanation of what procedures you need?
It should not be just, "We’ll just place this one implant."
You need a detailed explanation of why bone grafting is necessary, how the bone will be reinforced, and how many stages the surgery will involve.
If the explanation is vague or they try to push you into signing quickly, it’s best to be cautious.
3. Was the total treatment cost explained transparently?
Implant costs may seem low at first,
but it is not uncommon for CT fees, bone grafting fees, and additional crown charges to be billed separately during treatment.
So before starting treatment,
it is important to receive an estimate that clearly lays out the total expected cost.
Is it a clinic where you can consult directly with the director?
This is a more important point than you might think.
Implant treatment is not something that can be done like mass production,
and it requires a highly customized plan based on the patient’s oral condition, jawbone shape, tooth alignment, and bite.
So it is a good idea to check whether the dentist personally takes responsibility from consultation through surgery.

At some clinics, a coordinator handles the consultation, another director performs the surgery,
and someone else handles follow-up care.
If there is no structure in which one person understands and takes responsibility for the case from start to finish,
the continuity of treatment tends to suffer, and when problems arise, responsibility becomes unclear.
That is why, at our clinic, I personally review and explain everything from the first consultation to the final checkup.
Patients also seem to feel much more at ease that way.

An implant can be seen as an investment in creating the teeth you will live with for the rest of your life.
So I hope you find an Apgujeong dental clinic and implant dental clinic that follows these three principles.
-
Diagnosis should be precise (CT-based 3D analysis)
-
Explanations should be sufficient (clearly explain why it is needed and how it will be done)
-
Decisions should be made slowly (the director should consult directly, honestly, and without pressure)
If you are considering implants, please ask yourself these questions and make a careful decision.
This has been Gu Ja-cheol, director of Smile D Dental Clinic. Thank you.
