I believe the key is not simply whether one is good or bad, but who it is more suitable for.

Bracket braces

Precise and suitable for a wide range of cases

Bracket braces are the oldest and most traditional orthodontic method.

This method attaches metal or ceramic brackets to the outer surface of the teeth and moves the teeth through wires,

and it is still the most widely used treatment for various malocclusions.

Its biggest advantage is that it allows precise tooth movement.

In cases with severe rotation or severe crowding, or when spaces need to be closed precisely after extraction,

it is considered that bracket braces are appropriate for complex treatments that also require adjustment of jaw position.

Because the direction and strength of the force can be finely controlled, predictable results can be achieved.

Of course, there are drawbacks as well.

Because the appliance is visible, it may be somewhat burdensome from an aesthetic standpoint,

and food can get trapped around the appliance easily, so careful oral hygiene is necessary.

However, ceramic brackets similar in color to the teeth are now available, which can reduce the aesthetic burden to some extent,

and using tools such as orthodontic toothbrushes or a Waterpik makes hygiene management sufficiently possible.

In conclusion, when the structural difficulty of orthodontic treatment is high,

or when treatment precision is important,

bracket braces are still what we primarily recommend.

Invisalign clear aligners

A balance of aesthetics and convenience

Meanwhile, Invisalign clear aligners use transparent plastic appliances,

so they are not easily visible even when worn.

That is why they are popular among people in appearance-sensitive occupations and adult orthodontic patients.

Their biggest advantage is that they are removable.

They can be taken out during meals and when brushing, making hygiene easier,

and another major advantage is that there are almost no restrictions on what you can eat.

For people whose work involves frequent interactions with others, the fact that it places fewer limitations on daily life is also an advantage.

However, it is not applicable to every case.

When the range of tooth movement is large, or when adjustment of jaw direction is also needed,

bracket braces are often more suitable than Invisalign clear aligners for complex malocclusions.

Also, because the teeth will only move as planned if the aligners are worn consistently for more than 20 hours a day,

patient cooperation is a very important factor in whether treatment succeeds.
