Can non-incisional implants reduce the implant treatment period? <Doctor's Answer>
Hello, this is SmileD Dental Clinic, with 18 years and no accidents :D.
If you get a non-incisional implant,
does the treatment period really get shorter?
You’ve probably heard of non-incisional implants at least once.
In the past, most procedures involved making an incision in the gum and suturing it, so swelling and pain lasted longer and there were more treatment visits.
That is why, when people think of implants, they often first picture a “long and complicated treatment process.”
However, as non-incisional implant technology has advanced, there are many cases in which not only the recovery period, but also the implant treatment period and the number of visits can be reduced.
At SmileD Dental Clinic, we also perform this type of non-incisional implant procedure using a navigation system,
and every time a patient says, “Oh? It’s already done?” I feel very rewarded.
Today, I’ll explain how this non-incisional implant is possible and how much it can actually reduce the implant treatment period.

< Some implant surgery cases >

Treatment period: 23.12.25 - 24.6.28
Problem tooth location: maxillary anterior region

Treatment period: 24.11.3 - 24.12.3
Problem tooth location: tooth 46
Treatment period: 22.5.27 - 23.2.14
Problem tooth location: tooth 22
Treatment period: 21.6.23 - 22.4.8
Problem tooth location: mandibular anterior region

How is a non-incisional implant possible?
A non-incisional implant is, as the name suggests, a method of placing an implant without making an incision in the gum.
The key that makes this possible is “navigation implant” technology.
Simply put, just as a car navigation system guides the way, this system guides the surgical path based on CT and oral scan data.

First, after checking the patient’s gums, teeth, and bone structure in 3D using CT scans and an oral scanner, a simulated surgery is performed on the computer using CAD/CAM technology.
Before the actual surgery, a complete plan is made for where to place it, at what angle, and how deep.
Based on this data, a guide device that fits the patient’s mouth precisely is made with a 3D printer.
Using this guide, the margin of error during surgery can be reduced to within 1 mm.
With the planned position as the guide, the implant is placed directly in the necessary area without making a gum incision.

Because there is no gum incision, there is much less bleeding and swelling, and there is no need for procedures such as removing sutures.
In particular, at SmileD Dental Clinic, we thoroughly plan in advance so that surgery can be completed in one day and unnecessary waiting time is reduced.
Using the know-how gained from placing more than 1,000 implants a year, we complete the procedure quickly and safely.
Can non-incisional implants really shorten the implant treatment period?
Traditional incision-based implant treatment usually required more than 7 visits.
The process was long, from the first consultation, extraction, gum incision and implant placement, suture removal, healing check, impression taking, to final prosthesis placement.
However, non-incisional implant treatment can shorten this process.
In many cases, treatment is completed with an average of 3 to 5 visits.
Because there is no gum incision, the recovery period is shorter, allowing the treatment to move to the next stage more quickly.
There is less swelling and pain, so returning to daily life is faster as well.
Of course, the implant treatment period does not get shorter for every patient.
If the gum bone condition is poor or additional bone grafting is needed, it may take more time.

However, for people with good gum and bone conditions, the non-incisional method can be much more efficient.
At SmileD Dental Clinic, before the procedure, we accurately diagnose whether this method is possible through CT and oral scans, and if it is, we create a treatment plan that reduces unnecessary time.
From the patient’s perspective, fewer visits and a shorter treatment period are major advantages.
To summarize, non-incisional implants use a navigation system to perform the procedure without cutting the gum, so recovery is faster and, in some cases, the implant treatment period can be greatly reduced.
However, since this does not apply to all patients, a pre-treatment diagnosis is essential.
At SmileD Dental Clinic, we are equipped with advanced devices such as 3D CT, an oral scanner, and a 3D printer,
and a dental implant specialist with more than 10 years of experience personally handles everything from planning to the procedure by carefully analyzing each patient’s alveolar bone condition and oral structure.

If you are considering implants but are hesitating because you think, “It might take too long,” please come in for a consultation.
We will check whether there is a way to reduce the number of visits and the recovery time.
This has been SmileD Dental Clinic. Thank you.
