As the leading name in clear aligners,
Invisalign’s advantages
are now very well known.
In fact, when I talk with patients,
the fact that it is not very noticeable
seems to appeal to many people.

But even now, when it comes to clear aligners,
there are still people who are skeptical
about how effective they are.
And many people worry that if they start
without fully understanding Invisalign’s disadvantages,
they may end up regretting it
after being dissatisfied with the results.

So today, I will honestly explain
the disadvantages of Invisalign
that you absolutely need to know.
You need 22 hours a day and a battle with yourself.

The biggest advantage, being removable,
is actually also the biggest disadvantage.
That is because Invisalign must be worn for at least 20 hours a day,
and the recommended wear time is 22 hours
for the teeth to move as planned.
In other words, except for meals and brushing,
it needs to be worn almost all the time.

The moment you think, “I’ll just take it out for a little while,”
teeth movement stops
and the plan begins to go off track.
In the end, this becomes the biggest reason
why the overall orthodontic treatment period
extends endlessly,
or why the desired results are not achieved.
If you do not have strong willpower and diligence,
Invisalign may end up being nothing more than
an expensive piece of plastic.
Orthodontic appliances that may be more noticeable than expected

In advertisements, Invisalign looks like nothing more than a clear
and smooth appliance.
But in most cases,
in order to move the teeth effectively,
a small resin bump called an "attachment"
must be placed on the tooth surface.
This attachment plays a very important role in increasing the appliance’s retention
and helping with precise movement,
but it can be more noticeable than expected
and may cause a foreign-body feeling on the lips.
It can also become discolored by coffee or curry.
If you thought, “No one will ever notice at all,”
you may feel disappointed at this point.
Not a universal solution for every case

Although Invisalign technology has advanced dramatically,
limitations still remain.
In cases such as treatment for severe protrusion that requires tooth extraction,
or complex skeletal malocclusions that need surgery,
a conventional orthodontic appliance may be more appropriate
depending on the case.
If a clinic recommends Invisalign for every case
without carefully considering the patient’s condition,
I would strongly suggest thinking it over again.
For orthodontics, or any procedure for that matter,
finding the method that suits you best
is what matters most
when it comes to achieving satisfying results.
That is why, even if you are considering Invisalign,
you should make sure whether it is truly the right method for you,
and whether you can accept Invisalign’s disadvantages.
Please be sure to check.

One more thing I would like to emphasize is that
the more precise the tool, like Invisalign,
the more the practitioner’s skill and philosophy
can affect your satisfaction.
In particular, the role of the medical team is to
diagnose the patient’s condition honestly,
and if Invisalign is one of the options,
to become a responsible partner who helps you
overcome all the inconvenience and difficulties
throughout the process.
That is why I hope you do not look for a place that simply gives you the appliance
and ends there.
At each regular visit, I hope you can find a place where the staff carefully checks wear time,
motivates you regarding the progress,
and has a medical team that stays with each patient.
A place like that is one that can sincerely think about
what method is best for you
and how to make treatment more comfortable for you,
and I am confident it is a place you can trust.

To summarize the conclusion again,
Invisalign definitely has disadvantages.
But those disadvantages can still be overcome,
depending on which doctor
and what system is used to manage the treatment.
That is why I want to emphasize once again
that it is important not to simply go to a place that sells appliances,
but to meet a medical team that will stay with you
until the end of your successful orthodontic journey.
