Our clinic is run through collaboration among three specialists,
and we meet patients in person
to explain the treatment process in enough detail.
We are truly grateful that our patient-centered philosophy
has been recognized by our patients,
and thanks to them we achieved

'I want to get orthodontic treatment,
but I hesitated because of the appliance,
and then I learned about clear aligners.
But people say different things about whether Invisalign requires extractions,
so I’m confused about what is true...'

If you are reading this now, you may have been worrying about something similar.
Invisalign clear aligner treatment has such excellent aesthetics that it is difficult for others to notice you are undergoing orthodontic treatment unless they look closely.
If I say only that, it may sound like a treatment method with only advantages...

As you search more, opinions about whether Invisalign requires extractions are divided.
Some say, 'I wouldn’t recommend it if you need extractions,' while others say, 'It is possible even with extractions,' so there is a lot of disagreement.
You may have been confused about what information to trust.
For some patients, extractions are absolutely necessary for orthodontic treatment.
As an orthodontic specialist with 18 years of experience and certification from the Ministry of Health and Welfare,
let me tell you the conclusion first regarding whether Invisalign requires extractions:
Extraction-based orthodontic treatment is definitely possible.
Through the following text, I will go over the two topics below step by step:
- Advice on whether Invisalign requires extractions
- A review of extraction-based orthodontic treatment through a real case
If you read to the end, you will be able to take away the tips you were looking for. ^^

Advice from an orthodontic specialist
about whether Invisalign requires extractions?
Invisalign is an orthodontic method in which transparent plastic appliances are replaced step by step to gradually move the teeth.
It has excellent aesthetics, is removable, making meals and brushing convenient, and is also quite easy to manage for oral hygiene.
As mentioned above, opinions differ regarding whether Invisalign requires extractions.

This is because in the past there was a perception that Invisalign had technical limitations when it came to extraction-based orthodontics.
There was a question of whether it would be difficult to close extraction spaces while keeping the tooth roots parallel.

However, over the past few years, Invisalign has made remarkable technological progress,
and it is now considered applicable to almost all cases.

From my perspective as an orthodontic specialist, the difference from wire braces is so small that it is hardly noticeable.
However, that does not mean this automatically applies to every single case without exception.
Rather than deciding on your own by saying, 'I need extractions, so Invisalign won’t work for me,' or 'I must get orthodontic treatment only with Invisalign,'
it is preferable to first receive a precise examination from a specialist and then choose the method that is right for you.

A real-case review of
Invisalign extraction orthodontic treatment?
Continuing from what I mentioned above, shall we look at an actual case of extraction-based Invisalign treatment?

This patient had severe protrusion of the mouth and was under a lot of stress in daily life,
and because they work in a field that involves meeting people often, they wanted Invisalign treatment that would not be easily noticeable.

After examining the patient, I determined that Invisalign would be sufficiently effective for correction.

To pull the protruding mouth back overall, space needed to be secured,
so the first premolar on the upper and lower jaws was extracted on each side.

As the extraction spaces gradually closed, the teeth began to move,
and as the tooth angles returned to the normal range, the protrusion improved.

This case was completed in about 1 year and 8 months,
and the patient was very satisfied because their impression became more refined and neat.

At our clinic, the orthodontic specialist and the new orthodontic specialist who has recently joined
diagnose the patient in person,
and then establish the treatment plan after in-depth discussion with the Invisalign headquarters representative.
And that is not the end.
We continuously review and supplement the treatment plan while regularly checking the patient’s tooth movement status.
In addition, we also take on the role of encouraging patients so they can follow through with treatment to the end.
Please remember that only when such a systematic system is in place can we move one step closer to successful treatment results.

Today, we had an honest discussion about Invisalign extractions, something many people are curious about.
In the end, what matters is meeting experienced medical staff who have the ability to comprehensively consider
your oral condition, bite,
jawbone, facial line, and more,
and who can set the correct treatment direction.
I’ll end this post by hoping that you can smile confidently and beautifully wherever you are. ^^
If you inquire, we will provide detailed guidance on our clinic’s location and reservation process, so please refer to the link below for more details.
