Protruding Mouth Orthodontic Clinic: Improvement Is Possible Even Without Surgery
Chin retraction treatment can also improve the condition

Hello.
Since opening,
for 18 years,
writing our history every day

Our clinic is run through collaboration among three specialists,

'I was told my mouth sticks out
and even that I don't seem to have a chin,
which is so upsetting...
I looked into it a bit,
and people said surgery is the only option.
Can a weak chin really
not be treated with orthodontics?'

People who clicked on this article may also be dealing with a similar concern.
Protruding mouth and a weak chin are closely related, so they often appear together.
Because the jawline is set back and the mouth protrudes,
it can disrupt facial harmony and often lead to the misunderstanding that the person looks blunt or stern.
However, there are many sayings along the lines of, 'There is no answer for protruding mouth and weak chin except surgery.'
So you were likely searching for a protruding mouth orthodontic clinic with a desperate hope,
wondering whether orthodontic treatment really cannot solve it.

To answer that first...
Of course, there are cases where surgery is unavoidable,
but it is a fact that you can still feel a dramatic change with chin retraction treatment alone, without surgery.
As an orthodontic specialist with 18 years of experience and certification from the Ministry of Health and Welfare, working at a protruding mouth orthodontic clinic, I will personally explain the following in the body of this post.
- How to treat a weak chin
- Real cases of non-surgical chin retraction treatment
I will focus on these two topics and share realistic, specific information.
It will be useful information, so please read to the end. ^^

Protruding mouth orthodontic clinic,
How is a weak chin treated?
As I mentioned at the beginning, protruding mouth and a weak chin are closely related.

When the mouth protrudes forward, the nose and chin tip can appear relatively set back, so it may look like a 'weak chin.'

Conversely, when the lower jawbone is actually underdeveloped,
even if the mouth is not very protrusive,
the overall chin can look small and set back, making it appear protruded.
Of course, there are also complex cases where both conditions appear at the same time.

For this weak-chin condition, two treatment options can be considered.
- Combining surgery and orthodontic treatment

As mentioned, a weak chin means that the lower jawbone has not developed well skeletally,
so a surgical approach to increase the length of the jawbone forward may be necessary.
Through surgery, the jawbone is moved forward, and orthodontic treatment is combined to improve the skeletal form in an ideal way.
- Treating with orthodontics alone, without surgery

Orthodontics does not make a small chin move forward on its own,
but if the mouth is protrusive, moving it backward can make the small chin appear less small.

In simple terms, as the protruding mouth moves inward, the nose tip and chin tip become more noticeable.

Protruding mouth orthodontic clinic,
A weak-chin treatment case seen through a real example?
Now let’s look at an actual treatment case.
This patient had been under significant stress because of protruding mouth and a weak chin,
and after searching for a protruding mouth orthodontic clinic, came to our clinic.

After I made the diagnosis using X-ray imaging, the angle between the upper and lower jaws was 8.9˚.
The normal range is 2~4˚.

In other words, the lower jaw was severely set back compared to the upper jaw, showing an anteriorly inclined 'dental protrusion' pattern.
The patient wanted to avoid surgery if possible,
and I determined that improvement could be achieved through orthodontics,
so we planned orthodontic treatment with extraction of the upper first premolars and lower second premolars.
About 1 year and 8 months later, the extraction spaces were almost closed,
and in the 2 years and 1 month mark, they were all closed, and as planned,
the mouth moved back and the shape of the chin became more defined.

The total treatment period was 2 years and 4 months.

The patient even expressed gratitude, saying that they regained confidence in their appearance and were able to get a job. ^^

At our clinic, I, as an orthodontic specialist, along with another orthodontic specialist director and a director of integrated dentistry,
personally meet each patient and precisely diagnose the facial skeleton, tooth alignment, and facial line before analyzing the cause of the weak chin.
If surgery is necessary, we take enough time to explain it and then proceed with surgery through collaboration with a director who specializes in surgery.

On the other hand, if the condition can be solved with orthodontics alone, we identify variables that may arise before and after treatment
and coordinate and establish a plan to help the patient receive comprehensive care.
For those reading this article as well, I recommend choosing a protruding mouth orthodontic clinic with the ability to diagnose and treat not just a single tooth,
but also the patient’s oral health, the harmony of the entire face, and even quality of life,
from a comprehensive perspective.

This article was written for those who may have been upset about having a weak chin.
Rather than becoming unnecessarily afraid about whether surgery is needed and worrying alone,
it is wise and efficient to receive an accurate diagnosis
from an orthodontic specialist
and work together to find the treatment direction
that suits you best.
I hope you can smile in a healthy and confident way based on the content of this article, and I will end here. ^^
