Gapped Front Tooth Correction with Partial Orthodontics
If You Don’t Want to Waste Money and Time, Read This First

Hello.
I’m Oh Suhwan, the CEO doctor of Smile D Dental Clinic,
a board-certified orthodontist with 18 years of experience,
and a smiling doctor.
At our clinic, three specialists work together while listening carefully to our patients’ needs and wishes.
From one-on-one diagnosis to post-treatment care,
we practice patient-centered care.
In return for the love our patients have given us,
we provide intensive treatment for only 30 patients per month.

“My front teeth are slightly gapped,
and it really bothers me.
But I found out there’s something called
<partial orthodontic treatment>
for gapped front teeth...
I want to do it too,
but is it possible?”

Many of you reading this now may be dealing with a similar concern.
The front teeth are one of the first areas people notice, so it is no exaggeration to say that they determine a person’s first impression.

If you do not like the appearance of these front teeth, they can become a major source of appearance-related insecurity.
At the same time, if the only thing that concerns you is the gap in your front teeth,
it is also true that undergoing full orthodontic treatment because of that can feel burdensome.
That is probably why you became interested after learning about “partial orthodontics,” one of the methods for correcting gapped front teeth.
What I would like to say to those people as an 18-year orthodontic specialist certified by the Ministry of Health and Welfare is...
Even though partial orthodontics may look simple on the surface, it is not something you should decide easily.
In the main text that follows,
- The concept and features of gapped front tooth correction
- Precautions to know before partial orthodontic treatment
I will explain these two topics.
If you read carefully, it will be much easier for you to make a decision. ^^

Gapped Front Tooth Correction,
What Are the Concept and Features of Partial Orthodontics?

Partial orthodontics is a treatment method that selectively moves only some teeth, usually the front teeth,
roughly 4 to 6 teeth,
rather than the entire set of teeth.

Because it does not move all of the teeth,
compared with full orthodontic treatment, which can take an average of more than a year and sometimes more than two years,
it has the feature of finishing treatment quickly, in about 3 to 10 months.

The cost is also less burdensome, at less than half the cost of full orthodontics,
and the discomfort or pain caused by orthodontic appliances is also greatly reduced.
Is that all?

As with full orthodontic treatment, appliances can include brackets,
lingual braces attached to the inner side of the teeth, or clear Invisalign, so there are many options.
It is truly an orthodontic method that offers aesthetics, function, and convenience all at once.

Gapped Front Tooth Correction,
It Is Not Suitable for Everyone.
Based on what I have written so far, partial orthodontics may seem like a simple procedure that anyone can undergo,
but as mentioned, this is not something you can decide easily.

Partial orthodontics is suitable for cases that meet the following conditions.
✔️ When the front teeth are only slightly spaced apart
✔️ When only one front tooth protrudes
✔️ When one or two front teeth are slightly misaligned

If you are worried about gaps in your front teeth,
partial orthodontics may be worth considering when the gap between the two central incisors is within 1 mm, and the gap between the canine teeth or smaller front teeth is about 0.5 to 1 mm.

✅ If the spacing between the teeth is wide
✅ If the overall alignment of the teeth is unbalanced
✅ If there are bite problems
in such cases, a greater degree of tooth movement is needed,
but if only the front teeth are moved in a limited way through partial orthodontics,
there may instead be insufficient space, causing the teeth to protrude or become even more uneven, which would be a counterproductive result.
If that happens, you may ultimately have to spend both money and time again to undergo full orthodontic treatment.

That is why at our clinic, I and another orthodontic specialist doctor
see patients in person and perform a detailed diagnosis of tooth alignment, bite, and arch shape.

Based on the results,
if partial orthodontics is appropriate, we design a natural-looking alignment and proceed with treatment,
and if partial orthodontics is not suitable, we provide other alternatives tailored to the patient, such as resin, veneers, or full orthodontic treatment.
In other words, our clinic’s treatment philosophy is to reflect the patient’s needs while finding the most efficient treatment direction for that patient.

This post offered practical advice for those considering partial orthodontics for gaps in the front teeth.
As emphasized throughout the post, teeth can have their overall alignment altered even with a small misstep,
so a careful specialist diagnosis is essential.
Please visit at least 2 to 3 dental clinics where orthodontic specialists are on staff,
and have in-depth consultations
to find the method that suits you best,
so that you can smile with a healthy and beautiful smile.
If you contact us, we will kindly guide you through our treatment process and reservation method.

I’ll end this post hoping that only happy things will fill your everyday life today. ^^
