Hello,
I am dentist Yeo Sang-ho from Gangseo-gu Dental Clinic.
When you smile, what is the first thing that catches your eye?
It is our front teeth area😁.
This area is also called the anterior region.
It is one of the important areas that shapes your smile.
But what if the space between the natural teeth in this area
becomes wider, or there is
white spotting on the tooth surface?
Although it may seem like a small problem,
in reality it can reduce confidence in smiling
and even lead to discomfort in daily life.
Today, through example photos related to this,
I will explain the laminate treatment process
when early cavities are also present.
This post is written by Gangseo-gu Dental Clinic
for the provision of medical information.
- Identifying the problems in the example photos

Looking at the oral cavity,
we could confirm the following problems.
① Gap between teeth (interdental spacing)
A wider gap between the front teeth can cause food to get stuck easily
and lead to functional discomfort,
such as air escaping while speaking.
In particular, if the anterior teeth become spaced apart,
esthetic discomfort is added as well.
② White spot
This is not simply discoloration,
but a sign of early cavities,
and it was appearing white as minerals were lost.
The slightly yellowish areas around it
are places where tartar has built up or where staining has occurred.
What appears white is
commonly seen in the early stage of cavities,
and if left untreated, the cavity can progress further.
When analyzing these examination results,
in order to address both problems,
Gangseo-gu Dental Clinic could plan a treatment method
called laminate.
- Laminate?
It is a method in which the outer surface of the natural tooth is minimally and thinly reshaped,
and a customized ceramic is attached on top of it
to naturally improve the color, shape, and alignment.
That is why
it is important to create a design that suits the individual.
I will explain how the design process proceeds
at Gangseo-gu Dental Clinic.
- How does the design begin?
Every natural tooth has a different shape.
Front teeth may be slightly angular or rounded,
and moreover, the number of natural teeth visible when smiling
also differs from person to person.
Therefore, an accurate diagnosis is important.

Through impression taking,
when oral information is obtained,
wax-up is performed based on it.

The process of making the shape with wax (model material)
and trying it on,
this is the mock-up (wax-up).

Once the design is finalized,
the front surface of the actual natural tooth
is thinly reshaped.
Usually, it is shaped by about 0.3 mm to 0.5 mm,
and while preserving as much tooth structure as possible,
the surface is prepared so that the laminate can adhere well.

After that, pretreatment is performed on the tooth and the laminate surface,
and the prosthesis is attached with resin.

| Before | After |
|---|
| Front teeth were spaced apart, causing food to get stuck and air to escape while speaking | A natural and balanced appearance |
| White spots on the tooth surface (white spots) | Uniform color tone and texture |
Treatment is not the end just because the procedure is finished.
To keep it healthy for a long time,
management is also necessary.
I will briefly explain the care method
at Gangseo-gu Dental Clinic.
Be careful with hard foods! :
It is better to avoid nuts, candy, and the like.
Brush right after consuming stain-causing foods :
After drinking coffee or wine, be sure to brush your teeth.
Regular checkups are essential :
It is important to periodically check the condition of the treated area and the adjacent teeth.
Small white spots on teeth or
slight spacing between the front teeth
are by no means trivial problems.
If you receive appropriate treatment early,
you can prevent bigger problems.
I hope this was helpful to those who were curious about such medical information,
and I will end here.

Thank you for reading this long post.
