Hello,
I’m Yoo Sang-ho, a dentist at a dental clinic in Gangseo-gu.
A person’s first impression
is decided in just a few seconds.
Especially the shape, alignment,
and color of the teeth that show when you smile brightly
often account for a large part of your facial impression.
But have you ever looked in the mirror and thought
that your front teeth seemed fine,
only for them to look somehow uneven
or unbalanced in a photo?
Even when there does not seem to be
any major issue at first glance,
upon closer inspection,
there are often aesthetic factors such as gaps between natural teeth,
uneven coloration, and surface staining hidden underneath.
In particular, the front teeth are the area
that is revealed first when you open your mouth,
so even a small difference
can change the overall impression of your face.
1. Why is the proportion of natural teeth important?
When we think of “beautiful teeth,”
what standards come to mind?
The criteria explained at the dental clinic in Gangseo-gu
are as follows.
✔ An arrangement with even spacing between natural teeth
and good left-right symmetry
✔ A harmonious ratio between the length of the teeth
visible when smiling and the gum line
✔ A translucent surface
and enamel with natural shine
✔ Clean color and luster without discoloration
If even one of these conditions is lacking,
it may look subtly unnatural
in photos or videos.
In particular, the color and shape of the central upper front teeth (#11, #21)
are the first areas to catch the eye,
so even a small stain or gap can affect your impression.
In many cases, it cannot be resolved simply
with whitening or orthodontic treatment.
For example,
if there are gaps between the teeth,
repeated discoloration,
smaller size or asymmetry,
and wear at the cervical area,
veneers may be one treatment option.
This procedure involves minimally removing only the front surface of the tooth,
then attaching ceramic materials designed for each individual,
allowing both functional restoration and aesthetic improvement
to be considered at the same time.
In particular, when orthodontic treatment is not necessary
but the appearance is still unsatisfactory,
people can achieve the desired result quickly,
so busy office workers and those in broadcast-related fields
also often seek this treatment.
2. Examination
This post was written by the dental clinic in Gangseo-gu
for the purpose of providing medical information.

After checking the intraoral condition,
a mild interdental gap was identified
between the upper central incisors (#11, #21),
and staining and discoloration were present
around the tooth margins and cervical area.
In addition, there was cervical wear
and some gum recession in the lower anterior teeth.
These conditions are not very noticeable
during conversation or smiling,
but when viewed from the front, such as in a photo,
minor asymmetry and color irregularities
draw the eye away and make the overall impression
look blurred.
In this case,
orthodontic treatment was not necessary,
and it was a situation where simple whitening or scaling alone
would have been difficult to improve fundamentally.
Therefore, at the dental clinic in Gangseo-gu,
it seemed appropriate to proceed with veneer treatment
to improve the shape, color, and alignment of the front teeth
at the same time.
3. Treatment process
Veneer treatment is carried out
through the following process.
I will explain the process at the dental clinic in Gangseo-gu.
A wax-up is made on a model created from impressions
in order to realize a virtual veneer shape,
and the length, inclination,
curves, and symmetry of the teeth are adjusted.

At this stage, a mock-up using temporary material
can be performed to check the actual feeling of wearing it.
While preserving the natural teeth as much as possible,
only the front surface where the veneer will be attached
is minimally reduced.

The average reduction amount is about 0.3 to 0.5 mm,
allowing aesthetic improvement without loss of function.
Using a CAD/CAM system,
the prosthesis is fabricated,

after surface treatment (etching) using hydrofluoric acid, etc.,
it is bonded with resin cement
and fixed with a light-curing unit.

Occlusal adjustment is performed so that the attached prosthesis
bites naturally with the existing natural teeth,

and the final glossing and polishing
make the boundary with the natural teeth look natural.
Aesthetic concerns
are not limited to simple discomfort with appearance.
They can affect confidence, social expression,
and impressions in interpersonal relationships,
among other areas.
If you have ever been bothered by slightly misaligned teeth
or front teeth with repeated discoloration and staining,
now may be a good time to address the issue.
