Hello~
We are Magok Dental Clinic, wishing for everyone’s beautiful smile.
The crown that was placed after root canal treatment because of toothache caused by molar cavities!
It has replaced my original tooth all this time,
helped me eat delicious meals, restored the appearance,
and kept me free of pain...
But sometimes this prosthetic
can suddenly come off.
This does not only cause inconvenience in daily life;
it can also gradually increase the chances of infection and damage
as the protection for the tooth is lost,
so prompt action is more important than anything else.
Today,
we will explain how to respond when this happens,
as well as what to do about eating and what precautions to take after a molar crown comes off.
Why does a prosthetic come off?

So, why does a prosthetic placed after root canal treatment come off?
Magok Dental Clinic will briefly summarize the reasons.
1️⃣
First, there may be an issue with the adhesive.
Over time, the adhesive applied to keep it in place can lose its bonding strength,
or moisture and food particles can seep in,
loosening the artificial tooth that was once firmly attached or causing it to fall off.
2️⃣
Cavities are also one of the major causes.
When this happens, the internal structure of the tooth weakens,
and the CROWN may not stay properly attached,
which can cause it to fall off.
However, since decay inside the mouth is not easy to see by looking in a mirror,
detection is often delayed.
So we recommend regular checkups in advance.
3️⃣
If the tooth underneath the prosthetic cracks or fractures,
it can also come loose.
4️⃣
It can also come off when eating hard or chewy foods,
or during the process of using a toothpick afterward.
5️⃣
There is also the possibility that there was an error in the design during the manufacturing process,
so it would be best to discuss the details again with your dentist.
What should you do if a molar crown
suddenly falls off?

If we could predict situations like this in advance,
that would be ideal,
but unfortunately, these things tend to happen suddenly.
In that case, knowing how to respond
can help calm your nerves
and resolve the problem quickly.
So Magok Dental Clinic has briefly summarized
what to do when something like this happens.
✅ Keep the fallen crown!
An artificial tooth that has come off once
may be able to be reattached depending on the case.
However, whether reattachment is possible
cannot be determined at this point.
Therefore, we recommend keeping the fallen prosthetic in a clean condition
so that it is not damaged.
If you lose it,
there is no choice but to start again from the design stage.
In that case, additional costs
will naturally be incurred.
If it has been well maintained, re-cementation may be possible,
but if there is decay or if it is broken,
a new one may need to be made as well.
✅ Do not force it back in!
It may already be damaged in shape,
or the direction and position for insertion may be wrong.
If that happens, it could cause even bigger problems,
so
please avoid trying to force it back in yourself.
✅ What about meals?
We ask that you avoid chewing food on that side,
and it is best to avoid spicy or irritating foods for the time being.
Hot foods, including soups, and anything that comes into contact with the area
can also have a negative effect, so you need to be careful.
✅ No smoking & no drinking
No smoking and no drinking are already core points of health management,
but they are especially necessary in this case.
This is to prevent bacterial infection from entering the area,
so please be sure to follow this advice.
What if it’s broken, not just fallen off?

If it is not simply detached
but completely fractured,
Magok Dental Clinic will tell you
what to do.
First, collect as many broken pieces as you can
and store them cleanly.
They can be important materials when deciding
whether reattachment or restoration is possible.
As before, it is best to visit the clinic immediately
and receive professional treatment,
and please carefully review the precautions
explained above.
Crown reattachment and replacement

This time, Magok Dental Clinic will talk about
whether reattachment or remaking is appropriate.
🦷 Reattachment?
If it is judged to still be usable,
it can be cemented again and used.
If necessary, the shape of the tooth
may be adjusted.
🦷 Remade from scratch!
If there is a defect or if it has become severely discolored over time,
a new one may be made.
As before, the shape and color will be considered,
and cavity treatment may be done at the same time.
🦷 Prevent it from falling off again!
It is best to avoid chewing hard or chewy foods like peanuts or walnuts
with that area.
Since a common cause is the eating process,
please pay special attention to this part.
If you have a habit of grinding your teeth or clenching your jaw,
please be sure to improve it.
No smoking & no drinking are also essential!
In addition, it is also good to have the bonding condition
and oral health checked through regular examinations.

If you have actually experienced something like this in daily life,
you must have been quite surprised.
I also think that many of you probably already knew
about the points above and were paying attention to them in your own way.
But accidents always seem to happen without warning.
It can happen while camping and eating meat with friends,
while brushing your teeth,
or even after waking up at night and finding it has fallen off.
The best plan is to prevent pain before it happens,
and to stop problems before they occur,
but even if such a thing does happen,
I hope you can stay calm and respond without panicking.
I would like to sincerely thank everyone
who read this long post until the end.
