Today, at Shinsa Ribbon Plastic Surgery, we would like to share information about eyelid correction. ^^
There are people who have double eyelids or open their eyes as usual, yet somehow still look tired. This usually happens when the upper eyelid droops and covers a large part of the upper iris.
In such cases, people may use the muscles around the eyebrows and forehead to open their eyes more clearly, leaving prominent wrinkles on the forehead. Perhaps you are also looking into eyelid correction because of these symptoms.
Some patients think it is a surgery that can make the eyes look bigger when done together with double eyelid surgery, and they check whether they can get the procedure as well.
However, eyelid correction is not something you can simply receive just because you want it. It is a procedure applied to people with ptosis, so it is better to first receive a diagnosis of how severe your ptosis is.

So, what exactly is ptosis? A normal eye without ptosis has a clearer, more lively appearance. But if ptosis is present, the eyelid droops and covers the eye, making the eyes look narrow or giving the impression of being sleepy and tired.
This condition, in which the muscles used to open the eyes are weak, creates a constantly tired and sleepy-looking impression. Ptosis is a condition in which the muscles that open the eyes weaken for some reason, causing the eyelids to droop.
It often develops as people age and the muscles lose strength, but there are also many cases caused by congenital weakness of the levator palpebrae superioris.

Some patients think that if their eyes look sleepy, double eyelid surgery will solve the problem, but that is not always the case. In Korea, double eyelid surgery is one of the most commonly performed procedures, so it is relatively easy to access.
However, if ptosis is present and double eyelid surgery is performed without correcting it, the eyes may actually end up looking even sleepier after the surgery. Because the muscles are weakened and the eyes are drooping, even if a double eyelid fold is created, the position of the muscles remains fixed, making it likely to result in a dull-looking double eyelid.
If the problem is sagging skin rather than the muscles, double eyelid surgery may correct it to some extent. But if the issue is muscular, eyelid correction must be performed to strengthen the ability to open the eyes.

Eyelid correction is performed by shortening the relaxed levator palpebrae superioris. Since the muscle itself becomes shorter, it can help prevent the problem of the muscle sagging and covering the eye.
However, because ptosis is also divided into several stages depending on symptoms, it is important to diagnose the condition accurately and establish a surgical plan suited to each individual.
For people with mild ptosis, only a very slight shortening of the levator palpebrae superioris may be needed. But for those with severe ptosis, much stronger shortening is necessary to achieve a clear eye shape. Ptosis can also occur due to aging, but if there is congenital ptosis, it is advisable to undergo correction even in the teens to 30s.
After eyelid correction, when the eyes are opened, the eyeliner line moves upward significantly, making the eyes look much clearer. From the outside, the eyes can appear much larger than before, and the overall impression becomes sharper, creating a more refined image.

Today, we shared information about eyelid correction. What did you think? The important thing is to carefully plan the surgery in a way that is appropriate for the patient’s current condition. Therefore, if you are concerned about eyes that look sleepy, please visit a clinic in time and undergo the proper examination.
Thank you for reading this long post. ^^
