About the 3-Step Temple Lift

A temple lift is a procedure in which an oval incision is made in the upper scalp, that is, above the temple area, and the lax SMAS layer and sagging skin surface are pulled up at the same time and finely sutured.

Through this, it is possible not only to improve skin elasticity, but also to visibly lift sagging tissue around the jawline and protruding cheek fat.

Traditional facelifts involved extensive incisions from in front of the ears and, depending on the case, even behind the ears.

Of course, one advantage is that the entire facial skin is lifted, but the wide incision often led to issues such as scarring and skin folding.

What Are the Key Points and Precautions for a Temple Lift?

For a temple lift, as with all surgical lifting procedures, it is difficult to achieve good results by pulling only the skin surface.

This is because aging occurs not only in the skin, but also simultaneously in the fat layer and muscle layer beneath it.

In particular, the muscles are covered by a very thin membrane called the SMAS layer, and when this area becomes lax, it can cause sagging cheeks, so it must be lifted together.

As you can see from a cross-section of the muscle, unlike the general skin layer, various ligaments hold the muscle firmly in place.

Therefore, when performing a temple lift, it is important to lift the skin together with the SMAS layer underneath and to cleanly release the retaining ligaments to prevent the skin from sagging again.

It cannot be said that the skin will never sag again after surgery. This is because aging continues as time goes by.

However, when surgery is performed in this way, it is possible to sufficiently prevent the skin from sagging again in the short term.

Also, because the temple area has a relatively complex network of blood vessels and nerves, if the surgery is performed by a plastic surgeon with limited experience, various side effects may occur.
