This happens because hyaluronic acid, which plays a moisturizing role within the skin, and collagen, which provides elasticity, gradually diminish, leading to various cellular changes both inside and outside the skin.

Since the speed of aging differs from person to person depending on lifestyle habits, care methods, and other factors, many people nowadays consider anti-aging surgery starting at a relatively young age.

Of course, many people choose procedures such as thread lifting, but compared with surgical lifting, the longevity is shorter and it must be repeated continuously, so some people choose to combine it with surgery or consider surgery alone.

However, facelift surgery involves a wide incision range and therefore requires a recovery period, so it is true that undergoing the procedure in your 20s to 40s can feel burdensome.

At times like this, one surgery worth considering is the 'mini facelift.'

It refers to a surgical method in which only part of the hairline is incised, the loosened deeper layer is pulled up and fixed, and the excess tissue is removed and sutured.

It can compensate for the drawbacks of thread lifting while still retaining the advantages of a facelift, which is why more and more people have recently been asking about mini facelifts. :)

The mini facelift performed at our clinic is represented by the '3-Step Temple Lift.'

Also called a temple lift, it is a method of lifting the cheeks and the sagging side line by making a small incision in the temple area, located on the side of the scalp and above the ear.

Today, we will take this opportunity to summarize the advantages and disadvantages of the temple lift.

About the 3-Step Temple Lift (Temple Lift)

The temple refers to the skin tissue in the part of the head between the eyes and ears, where the temporal bone is located.

In general, it refers to the area not covered by hair, but in medical terms, the temple includes a fairly broad range, extending even to the parts covered by hair.

The 3-Step Temple Lift is a lifting surgery that makes an incision in this concealed area to minimize visible scarring and pulls up sagging skin tissue.

When people hear “mini lift,” the forehead is often the first thing that comes to mind, so some patients ask, “Why do we need to lift the temple area specifically?”

This is because the incision site differs depending on the purpose.

If areas such as the forehead, eyebrows, and eyelids are sagging, a forehead lift may be appropriate. But if you want to improve bulging jowls that resemble a bulldog, the nasolabial folds that become more pronounced because of them, or the side-line contour that disappears due to sagging tissue, then a temple lift on the side is the right approach.

This can reveal a jawline that had looked broadened and give a more refined impression, while the sagging cheeks are lifted upward to create a smoother facial shape.

The advantages of a temple lift do not stop there. Facial skin is attached to the skull, but the size of the contact area differs by region.

In the facial area, the cheekbones protrude and the bone structure below them is hollowed out, so there is inevitably more space, which is why sagging cheeks become especially noticeable as aging progresses.

However, the scalp is relatively closely attached to the skull, so there is less space between the two, which means less skin sagging.

In that sense, lifting the temple area, which is part of the scalp, can help maintain results for a longer period afterward.

That said, there are a few things to be careful about with temple lifts as well. We’ll explain them below. :)

Disadvantages of a Temple Lift and How to Prevent Them

The temple area contains sensitive nerves and blood vessels.

So if the surgery is performed by a doctor who has not studied and experienced temple lifts for a long time, there is a risk of nerve damage.

This is why it is important to choose a board-certified plastic surgeon with at least 1,000 cases of sufficient experience.

Also, because it is an area with hair, improper incisions can also create the possibility that hair may no longer grow there.

To prevent this, our clinic performs incisions in a way that preserves the hair roots, helping hair grow back after surgery.

Even immediately after surgery, the incision is small enough to be sufficiently covered by the hair on the top and sides, so there should be little inconvenience in daily life.
